I have read that location decisions are final.

That’s a bummer guess we can cross northeastern off the list

Suggest if you have questions about that to join the NU parents FB groups. It’s a helpful resource and also enables easier search of topics.

in addition to what others have said about class limitations, there are age restrictions to have study visas in certain countries. will your daughter be 18yrs by summer time (or by the time visa applications are required to be submitted)? that could explain some of the restricted countries.

Those age restrictions are set by each country, not Northeastern.

She won’t be 18 until early August so maybe that’s why.

Does anyone know if you go to the Oakland campus for the first year if you have more control over when you do your co-ops? I thought I read that somewhere. I would think it would be difficult to be in Oakland for a year, transfer to Boston and then have to do a coop sophomore year second semester for example.

Students choose where they apply to co-op, but if they are a CS major that may impact whether they are successful getting a co-op (just due to the demand). If you can swing your kid having access to a car during their co-op then they can apply to positions throughout the greater Boston suburbs and that opens up more options. Some students apply to co-ops near home and other extended family members if they are in a high demand major to limit having to also find housing. Some away co-ops have long established options for housing (e.g. JPL).

Another point of view re cars - my son had a co-op outside of Boston. The company paid for an Uber for him and another student so no car was necessary. A number of students take trains to locations outside Boston.

@GoUBears would you please elaborate on the comment about CS majors - are you saying it’s hard to get a CS co-op?

PSA: for those who were admitted to NU.in and have submitted an enrollment deposit, NU.in location selection is now available.

Italy, Spain and Portugal are probably eliminated for her if they have engineering due to her age. These requirements are set by the country, not NU.

Coops in this last couple of cycles have been challenging for many CS due to the economy and layoffs at companies… in other fields as well.

My sophomore boy has many CS friends in NEU. Yes, it has been pretty challenging for them to get CS coops recently, but it is more due to the overall CS job market. What I heard, not sure if it is true or not, that even some CMU CS kids are struggling as well. It really depends on what you compare to. Just my two cents…

should I update my SRAR with semester grades, I applied RD, even if my counselor sent my official transcript and is it too late? reposting

Shoot, I added my grades from second term but did not realize that just adding them and not clicking the submit button on top right corner does nothing. Just hit submit.

For NUin…
Anyone else waiting on putting down the deposit until later (fafsa aid etc) comes out? This is a top choice for D24 but I don’t want to put down a pretty sizable deposit that is non-refundable when we don’t even have all her options…of course she’s worried all the ā€œgoodā€ ones will be full by then :pensive:

Same. Im more concerned about getting low priority for boston housing spring term. All of the NUin locations look fun with plusses and minuses.
