Hi, anyone know how merit aid (non-need based) works for Early Decision? Does the whole class have to be admitted before they determine awards?

Merit aid is awarded at time of acceptance.

For those that have applied: Have you received a UID and portal access yet? If you have, did you apply ED or EA?

Do they provide FA to students who are applying to ED1?

Yes, including merit aid. You can request a financial aid pre-read after submitting an application. For international applicants, only merit aid is offered.

Thank you! Is the process for merit aid the same for recruited athletes?

No idea about recruited athletes.

I strongly recommend doing the pre-read. We found Northeastern to be very generous for FA, and we got nothing anywhere else. It was also very accurate.

oh, that’s good to know… Is there any deadline for preread? I believe ED/EA is due by Nov 1st

I would look on the NE website. We did it in 2022 and a lot of people seemed to miss it.

Well, I have a very small chance to even get into NEU, but I’m doing ED1 to shoot my shot.

Unweighted GPA (not going to colleges): 86.11
Weighted GPA: 86.90
[no class rank reported]
SAT scores, may submit: 1310 (660 EBRW, 650 M)
Major(s): I want to do materials science & engineering but NEU is one of the schools on my list without a program. May do CS, Mechanical Engineering, or Data Science.
Minor: I want to do something with neurobiology/neuroscience…sounds interesting.

ECs:
~ artistic coordinator of my friends’ non-profit. I attended meetings and made posters (!! big part of my role), talked to consumers, and donated to local food drives.
~ design notebooker. i’m on 2 of my school’s robotics teams [I was on D junior year, E senior year, but I may go back to D], I run the notebook. I attend the weekly/sometimes biweekly meetings, take notes, create and implement design matrices, document code, and submit work to competitions for potential awards.
~ I do a year-round academic advancement (*kinda?) program at [redacted for many reasons] University.
~ XC (cross country, JV) - 11th grade only; T&F (track and field, JV) - 9th and 10th only.
~ volunteered at a [redacted again for many reasons] summer program for 5 weeks; got community service hours
~ organized a bake sale to provide funds for individuals affected by the humanitarian crisis of ukraine - freshman year
~ national Spanish exam - honorable mention in 9th; bronze metal in 10th
~ I do a good number of clubs, except I don’t really go to their meetings because I’m very caught up in Robotics
(Clubs: SHS, Best Buddies, Robotics, Math Team(maybe?), Sci Oly(maybe?), Future Teachers Club, Literary Circle, Key Club [indirectly], Spanish Club/Art Club[indirectly])
~ second Honor Roll - all of freshman/sophomore year/2 quarters junior year - had a GPA of 83-86% UW per quarter
~ first Honor Roll - last 2 quarters of junior year - had a GPA of 87-91% UW per quarter
Special Circumstances: learning disabled - my Common App essay is on this

can someone delete this please?
it wont let me >:o

After submitting the application on Common App and setting up a portal account, is there a delay before they make the form for reporting grades available? I don’t see it in the Application Status Check portal.

Folks is 1390 / 1420 at superscore level good to submit
i am thinking better off not submitting it

Do it. I believe in you!

Did Northeastern always have a Coursework and Grades Form to fill after applying? Seems cumbersome to add 50+ courses when the same information is available in Common App-Courses and Grades section. The only difference I see is an extra field for start date of each course. Not sure how saying 9th Grade Semester 1 in common app is that different than saying start date august 2021 in their form.

Anyway, no prizes for guessing why they have this extra form for everybody to fill.

No idea but wondered the same thing. My guess was that it was to see who is really interested in attending potentially as a weed-out, and maybe secondarily to have an easy way to get info on senior year grades.
