Northeastern Fall 2013 Transfer Page

I’m going to say that the others have more eloquently said what I was trying to. Losing the middle school mentality will help you greatly bcrafton

Hello Everyone!
I was wondering if you could chance me?

I am a Sophomore and a Graphic Design major at the University of Tampa.
My current GPA is a 3.18.

I had a 3.42 at the beginning of the year but got 3 C’s and one A during the fall semester and my GPA fell a lot. :/

For my extracurricular activities:
-I was the T-shirt and Website chair for my Sorority
-I was also the Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for my Sorority.
-I have designed t-shirts and posters for other organizations on campus including the lacrosse team and the Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity.
-I do a lot of community service with my sorority at a domestic violence shelter and other places as well.
-I am doing an internship this summer in Brooklyn,NY at a advertising and marketing company called The Tronvig Group.

I am applying to get into the College of Arts, Media and Design.

I had all my materials in March 20th and I still haven’t heard back yet. I called them a couple days ago and they told me that I should hear back within the next couple of weeks. I know that because of the bombings things have probably been delayed but I am getting more anxious as each day passes.

What do you all think my chances are of getting in?

Thank you!!

I found out right before my birthday last week that I got accepted! I was so surprised! IM SO EXCITED!! I applied as a freshman from FAU for the College Of Business Administration and got in. I didn’t have strong grades ( my GPA is a 3.0) but my midterm grades were great and I had a very impressive Why I want to transfer essay and LOR. My extra curriculars and internship, I believe, helped me out! So for all of you that applied or are applying in the future don’t be afraid of not having a extreme gpa! BE WELL ROUNDED! Congrats to everyone else accepted. Feel free to message me and we can be friends! I Can’t wait to move to Boston! Good luck to those still waiting!

P.s. Go Huskies!

kooliosis1, congrats! I also found out near my birthday =)

hey guys!

does anyone know how many credits you need to transfer in as a sophomore. the myPAWS thing doesnt really make much sense to me lol
thanks so much

kooliosis1,
Congrats!! That is so awesome that you found out near your birthday! Happy belated birthday too!
And that is really great to hear about the GPA! Makes me have a little more hope of getting in!!!

Mypaws is so confusing me too, is the “Course List” link supposed to be blank?

the Mypaws also confuses me… no idea

for those accepted, have you guys paid the deposit?

i just emailed them asking for an extension, because I really need more time to make this decision… fingers crossed!

good luck for those who are waiting! =)

bosbr100, Yea, I paid my deposit this past weekend. My deposit deadline wasn’t until May 9th, but NEU was/is my first choice so it was an easy decision for me. Hopefully, they’ll give you another week or two for your extension! Which other schools are you deciding between?

liebling, that is great! Congrats

I’m waiting to hear back from BU and NYU, still I’m not confident I’ll get in. Northeastern is also one of my top choices, I love their campus, but I would feel better to know all the options I have before making a decision, or paying the deposit. I hope they do extend, let’s see…

Hey guys, I made a facebook group for the incoming transfers to Northeastern this coming fall so join it when you get the chance and meet some future classmates or ask a question. https://www.facebook.com/groups/346307735491596/

PatchRadio, it’s probably a lot harder to meet people as transfers, so that’s a great idea
As soon as I decide, I’ll join the group in case I go to neu

can someone please reply to me :)?

transferccgal:
Personally I think you should get in! Your list of stats and everything seems impressive! From the other posts that I have read on here on earlier pages I believe I saw some business majors who were accepted with a 3.0-3.5 GPA!

I hope my 3.18 gpa will be enough to get into the graphic design program
I am also freaking out and hope to get an answer soon!!!
I am really unhappy at the school I am at now and I want to come home to Boston more than anything. Northeastern has a way better program then my current school and I dream to be able to live in Boston!!

Good luck to you!! I hope you get in!!

Congrats to everyone else! I just discovered this page a couple days ago and it is exciting to read through all the posts and see everyone being accepted! I hope I am lucky enough to get the chance to join all those who were accepted!

Hey Marissa, just out of curiosity what don’t you like about Tampa? One of my closest friends from high school goes there. Everyone was kinda surprised she went there since she was so set on the Ivies but we figured UTAMPA was right below or something…

@marissathemaine

Thanks for responding!! I coincidentally live in tampa too- So funny!

I really hope I get in too! Another day of nail biting and grey hairs… ahhh good luck!!!

transferccgal, you seem to get a solid chance! Your stats and overall experience seems impressive. Your GPA in HS and in college is good as well.
Good luck for those who are waiting! I hope you all can get into NEU

bosbr100: Thank you and congrats on getting in!

transferccgal:

Haha not way! What a coincidence! And yea exactly I hope we get answers soon! thank you!

AustinU:
( sorry in advance for my really long answer haha)

There are a lot of people who got into Ivies and schools just below that tier who did did not get enough money to be able to attend those schools and because of that they attend UTampa.

The business school and the education programs are really good at UT but if you are not in one of the popular programs then your program is pretty much slacking and forgot about.

Florida is a great place to vacation and party but not necessarily a great place to live. It gets old after a while. I am from Massachusetts originally and I am a 150% a Boston girl. I hated the small town I grew up in that was full of a bunch of rich snobs. So because of that thought I wanted to get away to the warm weather and never come back. I enjoyed my first year of school but my second year this year was terrible. I shortly realized this year that I missed Boston a lot and that was where I wanted to be.

So many people transfer from UT the first and second year. A lot of people have the same thoughts as me that they want to get away. Many realize they don’t like it or can’t take being that far away and miss home and transfer back. I think it is about a 50% transfer rate? Something ridiculous like that.

My program is not that great here ether. I am a graphic design major and once I got into the upper level courses the professors aren’t very good. I feel like I am not really learning much anymore and that if I stay here I am not confident that when I graduate I will know everything that I will need to know in order to be successful. Also the program isn’t that in depth. For example at my school the classes go : intro to graphic design, typography, graphic design 2 and at NEU they offer so many more classes: intro, typography 1,2,3 graphic design 2,3 and 3D design 4D design and so many other classes.

UT also makes you take a bunch of other required classes to fulfill a “bachelorette experience” thats suppose to make you a well rounded person but a lot of the classes are pointless that I am never going to use again anyway. It feels like high school. They make you take Biology, a chemical science, a math class. Then they make you take classes in many other sections such as social sciences and humanities and fine arts classes but none of the classes that count towards these can be from your major so all the art classes i’m taking for my major don’t count. So now I would have to take a music class or spanish or something to fulfill that in order to graduate which is a waste of time. NEU seems to cater your classes all towards your major and what actually makes sense.

I also joined a sorority finally right when I got to school and it was really great the first year but this year I saw the true colors of the people in it. They kind of shelter you the first year so you don’t drop and then after that reality sets. Not all sororities are like this but unfortunately I didn’t get the experience I wanted. I just feel that I haven’t really found my place here in Tampa and it is not the place for me.

Got my FinAid award. :] Achievment award and NEU Grant totalling $16,600/yr scholarship, but I’ll be using my GIBill and Yellow Ribbon, so I’ll be completely covered.

Paid my enrollment deposit, now just trying to contact housing to tell them there’s no way i’m living on campus. I did my time in the barracks, I’ll be living on my own thanks :D.

Joined the facebook page, look forward to seeing you all! Comp Sci / Game Design major n_n
