This is so surreal right now, congrats to everyone who got in! And good luck to everyone who got deferred

@blopblopblop Congrats! Care to share how much in NHRP you received? Thx. My daughter was accepted (not honors) and received $15K in NHRP, but seeing much larger numbers from Honors.

@TomSrOfBoston Thank you for asking. I will tell you that the letters received are the most unclear letters I have seen, so much so that I almost think that I read it wrong. And I am still not 100% sure. So she got 3 letters. First was acceptance letter. 2nd was Financial Aid letter which said Northeastern National Hispanic Schol (cut off) and says $7,500 per semester for a total of $15,000. It also had $5,500 unsub loan. And then a 3rd letter that said Scholarship that in part read, “The Northeastern National Hispanic Scholarship is in the amount of $15,000 for your first year and $7,500 per full semester during your upper-class years”. So at first I said, well this $15,000 must be in addition to the $7,500 x2 on the Financial Aid page. But going back to Finc Aid page, I first of all have no business receiving $15K financial aid. So why does NU put a Scholarship under Financial Aid Award? I thought maybe they gave me this “Fin aid award” and this Scholarship to allocate it across different funds. And, why does the Scholarship letter say $15,000 for the first year (and $7,500 later years) and the finc aid letter say $7,500 each semester?

However, the part that made me think it was just the $15k is that my bill is $55K (without loan). Of course that sentence has a star next to it with no corresponding explanation of what that star is. Could they have not calculated the NHRP scholarship on the financial aid? And if I got a NHRP scholarship for $15k, why would they call a separate financial award the same name? So many questions…

@tbrixton – I thought this was pretty clear. If you applied for FA, you got a letter with your FA (if only the scholarship listed, then you did not qualify beyond the scholarship). If you got the scholarship and a loan, then that is total financial aid. My kid’s FA letter said the same thing. The scholarship specifies just the scholarship which is merit-based, not financial aid. Of course it changes your financial need and would be included in financial aid. For admission, you got an admission letter. For the scholarship, you got a letter showing scholarship. I think the first year is separate partly because the GPA requirement is for the whole first year and afterwards, it’s for an overall average and needs to renew each semester. Just MHO, but I thought it was all pretty clear.

Accepted with a 27 ACT! Completely excited and shocked. Great Financial Aid as well!

I was accepted with 30k/yr scholarship… so for schools that meet 100% need, our final asking price sounds about right. However, the amount of GRANT money NEU gave was quite low for our financial status. Does the merit scholarship also factor into the “meet 100% need promise”?

If so, should I talk to NEU about this? I mean, we can still afford it. But I’m suprised we got so little in actual grant money.

@kaibab3 Probably just my wishful thinking… That and expecting the $30k promised by every admissions person i spoke with (and not “up to $30k” but more like, “yes, it’s $30k”)! I guess I also just separate in my head “Financial Aid” with “Merit Scholarship” and thought it should be a separate item that is underlined/separated. But yes, makes sense. This won’t deter me from calling and finding out why no one (at least on this site) other than Honors got more than $15k for NHRP despite the verbal grantees . Maybe my daughter will get $20k from BU and can parlay that for more from NU! But since BU promises $20k, we’ll probably get $10k lol

Not sure how I feel about going abroad for the first semester of my college career and then starting at the Boston campus in Jan 2020.

Yes. Not sure how I feel about it.

@lzd1234 there were a couple in the first waves who said they were denied but others could have not posted because they were upset idk

Im just wondering if northeastern is taking on Michigan’s tactics of accepting people they know will go to their school and then deferring everyone else to then see who will withdraw there applications to then see who will really want to go in their regular decision as a way to up their competitiveness (hopefully this makes sense)
