I wish the school did a better job with the PR then. It seems like many of the students are going by default and perhaps do not have better options. Yes, it is time to move on and thankfully we have several excellent options. Best of luck to all.
The NUin students post YouTube videos about their experiences, which are overwhelmingly positive. I understand not everyone wants to study abroad, but, as others have said, itās a successful program. With over 75,000 applicants this year, and many smart and accomplished students rejected, congrats to all students accepted and welcome to the pack. NU has done a great, science-forward job in responding to the pandemic that was better than many other colleges, including very elite ones.
The NUIn student videos on YouTube are great. But, they are submitted as a program requirement so it probably makes sense that they skew positive.
I think itās also helpful to understand that studying abroad is a very popular thing to do at Northeastern (in a normal year).
Aside from the specialized entry programs, many many students do a Dialogue of Civilizations (spend a month studying abroad in summer term for credit), a traditional study abroad (spend a semester abroad for credit), or even do a global co-op (work abroad).
The students come in and out of campus and it is totally normal and encouraged.
The comments in the NU Parents Facebook group about their studentsā experiences in the NUin program are also extremely enthusiastic and the one parent I know personally said her sonās experience was fantastic. Maybe you could gauge dissatisfaction by the student transfer percentage.
Already accepted into NUin CS + economics
Quick question what happens if we request to change major from CS+ Economics to CS + Business administration does the application goes into the decision process again, whatās the risk?
Do we need to explain the change and all?
Not sure anyone did this before after acceptance came through and whats the process ?
we actually requested change after the EA deferral changed from DS + Economics to CS + Economics back in Jan.
Are they actual matriculated students? If not, they wouldnāt be calculated in the transfer rates. Also ⦠kids who donāt accept the NUin offer are probably not counted in their yield. Smoke and mirrors⦠And requiring kids to make you tube videos??
I am sure those who do this program have good things to say. Iām just not sure they had other options ⦠or wanted NEU that badly? This one is a tough sell to me.
Got it. You donāt like the program. Enjoy your childās college.
That happened only the year East Village opened bc it opened in January. All other years, before and after EV opening, NUIN students were placed in open campus housing for spring semester.
It has been selling quite well for 11 years. As I said before, time to move on.
It should be a simple no risk request! You can go onto the portal and file a major change request, and typically itās processed/accepted in a week or two. Youāre accepted to Northeastern, not a specific college.
Didnāt you say in your message that itās time to move on? And you had several excellent options.
Well please move on, as many families are interested in the NUin program.
And my son has several other excellent options as well. As Iām sure many other families do as well. No one is trying to āsellā it to you. If it doesnāt work for you, it might for someone else. Please move on to one of the other options that you are interested in. Good luck.
Just to give example student Accounting + Economics major doing her 1st Coop at KPMG making 30/hr
NUin
Hereās a different perspective ⦠many students actually want the NUin program.
D21 was familiar with NUin when she applied. Itās one of the reasons why she applied! On her application, she checked the box that said, āyes, NUin would be my preference for first semester.ā She applied as an International Business major so having the opportunity to go abroad right off the bat was a no brainer for her!
Yes, D has other options and is still waiting to hear from additional schools. But, NEU is right in the mix. Itās the only school that at least offers the opportunity to go abroad first semester (or, stay in Boston). And, itās the only school that offers the co-op program!
Thanks for convincing us!! This site is a wealth of information. Everyone is helpful and respectful. Yes, see you in NUin.

Are you going too?

I guess that goes to my point⦠not looking to argue and I get that people asked me to move on⦠but Iād like to explore this concern that the students on NUin are all students who would prefer to be elsewhere. Whether it be Cornell in your case or just at NEU as a normal admitted student. When students have other options, are they accepting this one? Do they have self confidence issues as if second class citizens, not worthy of a regular admit to the Fall? Are they truly matriculated students or contingent upon proving themselves. And why isnāt The admissions office doing a better job explaining this?
It has helped to hear that some have been very successful. Thanks for that. Perhaps admissions should utilize their anecdotes
