Haha, I took too long to type up. Glad it was answered for you already:)
Thank you so much MamainMA. This is a precious information.
He can check the program study and program requirements by drilling down the menu.
If I understand correctly, each of the majors of the combined majors are in their respective schools.
Awesome! Thank you so much!
Youâre welcome! From looking at the classes for my childâs combined program, it seems they are pretty evenly divided.
I know at least five people who have gotten into Northeastern, along with Stanford and/or Ivies, etc. Itâs not yield protection. I apologize, but the arrogance associated with rejected people claiming âyield protectionâ is incredibly frustrating. Youâre not above a school with an acceptance rate below 20%.
Not likely a yield issue. More likely the inconsistencies in the admissions (in at ivies and rejected at Northeastern) is due to Northeastern making admissions decisions without requiring essays from the applicants. Northeastern is notorious for making decisions that make no sense to outsiders.
Sure, but Northeastern is known for gaming the rankings and waitlisting qualified people. I got into Brown, Cornell, and Columbia. Northeastern probably waitlisted me because they thought Iâd get into a better school. Schoolâs do that all the time. And for what itâs worth, Northeastern isnât really that great.
You were using Northeastern as a safety. They made the right decision.
Agree 100%. For example, Brown accepted you after asking for a video and making an effort to know you. My daughter got into Brown, Vandy (CV scholarship) and USC (presidential scholarship). Yet, got the NUin program. Made no sense until realize they Northeastern makes no effort to really get to know their applicants. Maybe its gaming for rankings. Either way, makes no sense at all to me.
Why? Donât they have confidence in their program? The other schools donât have the same co-op model. Arenât they selling themselves short?
Itâs not about confidence in their program. Itâs a business, and yield management is not only important for the rankings (which NEU is known to chase) but also to run their business. They canât accept every ivy-qualified kid who comes along b/c they will have no class at the end of the day.
Exactly. Northeastern didnât even have a supplemental essay, which was very odd to me. How would they get to know me? I think they got rid of the supplement because a) it saves time in the admissions process and b) encourages more people to apply.
Congrats on your 3 amazing acceptances!
Just curious, if you also were accepted at NE, would you consider going there?
Above, poster wrote that NU âisnât really that great.â So I am not really sure why this person even applied, much less consider attending.
Saw that as well. But seems very upset to be waitlisted at a school they say isnât really that great.
It can be very upsetting to be denied, deferred and/or waitlisted.
Northeastern has never had a supplemental essay. And from what we know of you from your comments you would not have been a good fit at Northeastern.
True. But Northeastern will always be a second-third rate school as long their admission decisions are based upon fear that students will chose to go someplace better. It appears to me that those who chose Northeastern (particularly NUin) have limited options on the table. Thing is that they do offer a unique program model with their co-ops. Perhaps some of the students they are rejecting would have been interested in attending.
No.
