Northeastern University 2021 RD

For my son, I can tell you that this is not the case. He is strongly considering NUin and has other very strong options as well.

We also know of some students that applied to NorthEastern with very high and similar academic stats. Some were accepted and others deferred and then waitlisted.

I’d be more impressed if you knew how to use an apostrophe.

To reiterate- Northeastern made the right decision.

Same! My daughter is choosing between NEU and USC. She likes different things about each.

Wow…why trash a school just because you were denied? why did you apply in the first place? That’s terrible to do to students who worked hard and were accepted.

Most schools protect yield to some degree…hence ED1 & ED2.

I got into NU in program for Northeastern and Stanford. GPA: 3.9 UW 4.5 W competitive high school 1580 SAT 35 ACT. I can tell why they rejected you. Thank god they did. The quality of education is same for all colleges. I’m actually considering NEU for their insane co-ops program despite the name ā€œStanfordā€. You are just that problematic kid in this society, bragging about that ā€œprestigeā€. Just pathetic…

Perfect answer!!! Why trash a school that turned you down?

Obviously he thought highly enough of them to apply. Have a little class…you made great schools…be happy!

Congrats on Stanford! Did you specifically apply for NUin? If not, any idea how someone with your impressive stats was chosen for a program that appears to be for a lower tier of students. My daughter was also accepted for NUin. My primary concern with the program is the lack of cohesiveness in housing for second semester. Basically, will be assigned where there is space, no effort given to housing with other Freshman or NUin students.
I love the co-op concept, but think I will be turning down NUin and feel a little insulted by the admissions team. Also think the university does a terrible PR job with this program. Why assign kids unwillingly to start the year abroad?

I think you also may have the option to stay in Boston (off campus in a hotel) …not the best way to start for high stat students.

My brother will be applying this fall. He has slightly lower stats, so he would accept that offer if they have the Boston option again.

I personally don’t think NUin is necessarily for ā€œlower tier of studentsā€ and I did not apply for NUin. Since NEU is unable to offer financial aid to NU in students, the program is more preferred to students from high-income households especially, which I would say my family income is a part of.

So… you have the option to stay off campus at a hotel? Can you remain in the hotel for second semester? Can you keep your same roommate? Socially, I guess you have to be the right student. I wonder what is the yield for this program. Seems like it is a very fragmented way to start college. Maybe I am missing something.

I initially believed the NU.in was for lower tier students, but after witnessing my school friends ( Very high GPA, at least top 50% of students in my school range between 1500-1600 SAT or 34-36 ACT) and top-stats students being accepted to NU.in, I realized that was not the case…

I do have option to stay at Westin hotel(I think?) for first semester, but I believe I have to enter school dorm from 2nd semester until end of my sophomore year. Yes, you can keep the same roommate for sure if you guys agree to stay with each other. I’m not an admission officer and I haven’t researched the program and school enough to give you definite answer to the yield. However, I’m sure the program and acceptance even are all very selective at Northeastern.

yes, you stay at the Westin. I hear the rooms are really nice and fully furnished. You can keep your roommate in the Spring. You can also take classes on campus, but your first semester grades are treated as transfer grades. (strange) so you get the credit but it doesn’t factor into your GPA.

I think a lot of full pay students get offered this option because aid or merit doesn’t apply (not sure which one)

Just an FYI - My son was admitted to the NUin program and offered significant merit $$s.

That’s great! I thought I read on one of these threads most were full pay and the merit or aid only applied to the spring semester.

Congrats!!

Thanks. He is seriously considering accepting. Doing some more research.

We visited last week. There is a 30 minute outside walking tour that was helpful. Also one of his friends who was accepted last year showed us around campus as well. Those who choose Boston for the NUin program will stay in the Westin Copely. We stayed there for one night and it’s very nice. It is approximately a one mile walk to campus. Took us around 15 minutes.

While I have no prior knowledge of this program, I can tell you that our current experience is that this program is definitely not only for lower tier students.

Funny, my younger brother and parents visited last week as well. Although we visited when I applied, my main focus was Tufts. So I had my mind made up. But my mom said she absolutely LOVED Northeastern and saw it in a different light the second time around. She said the walking tour was great and the campus was really nice. He was most likely ED there.
