Northwestern Class of 2028 Official Thread

per message in the Rejection notice, 50k applied for 2100 places.
Fortunately were able to fit another school on the east coast into the same trip while he was doing all the in person auditions so we saved a little on airfare.

Waitlisted. He’s totally fine with it. He knew coming from OOS especially would be even harder.

4.79wgpa, 1500 SAT, NMF, sports and clubs, leadership and captains, seal of biliteracy in Spanish, etc.

Got rejected
3rd in a row. Not really my top choice but maybe being waitlisted would be nice

My son was accepted and I don’t think his school has ever had someone at northwestern.

congrats! What major did he apply to Northwestern?

Civil engineering

Wow that’s a 4.2% acceptance rate!!!

We tried to register for an admitted student tour and received the error message. Anyone else have this issue? Either they rushed out the door this afternoon without turning on the admitted tours or my kid’s admission was a mistake (jk). He can register for Wildcat Days (but we can’t attend) so I guess that’s a good sign

Not really
it was really sweet how they tried to let our rejected kids down gently, but they accept around 4000 with an expected 56% yield to come up with 2100 students. It is still a low acceptance rate of 7-8% this year. I think the waitlists are really going to move this year because the same 7-8% are probably getting admitted to every school. I have a “perfect stat” kid with awesome leadership and ECs rejected from EVERY reach and even one target! She only got her targets and likelies. We are just hoping to get on one of those moving WL!.

I don’t know enough to know if this is a heavy waitlist year or not. But it certainly felt like it from our perspective. Schools trying to protect yield. I guess we’ll see—maybe they are way better at calculating this stuff than I give them credit.

S24 has 4.5 W and 4.0 uw. With ACT 36 , NMS Finalist, Governor school, Missouri top 100, tons of club leadership and awards and volunteering hours. Still waitlisted in 3 private schools so far including this one. He got into all 4 public schools including GT,UMich and UIUC
hoping he catches a break today from the waitlist. He is asking me what else I could have done more. I feel for all the kids in the same boat
best of luck to all kids today

Wow. You have a lot of great choices. Waitlists are super frustrating. We had 5 in a row, including NWU before getting into S24’s first choice late last night. Not much rhyme or reason that I can see other than we had ED’d the first choice and although deferred sent a pretty specific LOCI detailing aspects of the school we learned during our visit that made it still the number one choice.

There are two factors, as I understand it, does the school need “someone like you”—major, sex, geography, etc. And as important, will you come. They don’t want to mess around with someone who won’t come.

We were told to feel good about the WL because that means the school thinks you’re qualified.

Cold comfort, I know.
