What are you interested in studying? (And which NU school(s) are you applying to?)
Interested in business and economics. With NU, will be applying to College of Arts and Sciences
Does a specific college or major help get admitted with the schools I have listed?
I believe that having a less common INTENDED MAJOR (you do not actually declare a major at WCAS until after you have enrolled in classes, and usually much later) helped my chances at least a little. However, this would not work for you because they want to see consistency. Your intended areas of study will probably be the best for you based on your ECs.
I don’t know anything about any NU schools except for WCAS so I can’t really answer the second part of your question.
BTW I will be a freshman this fall and am happy to answer any other questions you have about my experience
Based of my curriculars and stats, what do you think my stats are? Also, what does NU look for the most in its essays? Like I don’t have a 4.0 or a high weighted so I know the essay is important. I wanted to know what they look at in the essay
I have a hard time chancing people, but I don’t see any big drawbacks.
I’m a little confused about the GPA though. Is this a weighted GPA? No one can really chance you without an unweighted GPA.
The Asian thing will probably hurt but the ED part will help.
As for the essays, try to make them as authentic as possible. There are 2 essays (Why NU + Common App). I didn’t take either of these essays as an opportunity to brag (that’s what the rest of the app is for IMHO).
In My “Why NU” essay, I focused on what I believed really made me a good fit for the school, while making sure to include specific things about the school that I was interested in. You may be good for demonstrated interested already because of ED, I really don’t know.
My Common App essay was a lot better than my Why NU essay. I actually wrote about one of those things that they tell you not to write about and I was very reluctant to do so at first. In fact, I didn’t decide to use the topic until after getting deferred ED by Middlebury College. A conversation with an NU AO at the accepted students day who remembered my essay proved that I made the right choice in the end. The point of all that is, your essays should be authentically you. It’s fine to have some help with editing, but don’t send in anything you’re not proud of. It’s a good place to show them a part of your personality. Show them that you are more than scores and a list of ECs. Does that make sense?
Bump? Also, unweighted is a 3.71/4 and my weighted is a 4.3. In addition, I also have a tutoring business with an arsenal of tutors.
