Northwestern HPME Part 1

ya momentarything i felt the exact same way, the med students just seemed like very down-to-earth, well-rounded people who got to where they are by natural ability rather than just being cutthroat competitive bookworms and studying all day long, seems like it would be an awesome group to be part of

does anyone know how many people got interviews this year for sure and how many acceptances they will offer?

My faculty interviewer told me that ~120 people got an interview. I’m also pretty sure I heard that 30-40 people would get accepted.

btw, how many people on CC had an interview on the 23rd? I was too scared to ask anybody while I was there, haha.

its true that the admissions process is pretty arbitrary; there are some hpmes here who really make me doubt hpme admissions. I defintely feel that some regular pre meds here deserve the hpme spot more than people who are already in hpme. However, most hpmes are very hard working and are amazing people who would have gotten into top med schools anyway. That being said, I disagree with the previous poster that NU is not a challenging academic environment. I find it quite challenging actually, with lots of opportunities for intellectual and cultural exploration. Being in HPME will definitely make these opportunities more available and feasible.

I agree with jcr182. As with any program, there are a few questionable admits, but in general the HPME classes are very bright and talented. NU is definitely a challenging academic environment - anybody who says otherwise just hasn’t used NU’s resources to the fullest extent. There are research grants, professors with exciting projects, study-abroad opportunities, not to mention rigorous pre-med classes.

are you garunteed admission to northwestern if you get an interview for HPME?

extravaganza, yes, i think so

it would be mean if not…like, REALLY mean…

almost there just a few more weeks of waiting…

is there an exact date when we hear? mail or email?

decision letters are going to be mailed on March 30th
i know because eve veis just emailed me to ask me which address they need to send my letter to (i go to boarding school hence i have 2 addresses)

so i guess we’ll be getting them on monday or tuesday

check out the new HPME site: http://www.medschool.northwestern.edu/hpme/index.html</a>
its pretty cool and has three student profiles

Wait, so mailed as in by post? Didn’t they use to e-mail applicants in the past?

thats what i thought
i guess we just have to wait for snail mail
