Northwestern HPME Part 1

kcbandi, those are great SAT scores. You don’t have to worry about the SAT now. You should take the SATIIs in Chem and Math now. But you should definately get an app.

wait HPME is premed right??? i kno this is going to sound stupid

I really dont know what you mean by your question, but for a good description of what HPME is, read this: http://www.medschool.northwestern.edu/hpme/overview.html</a></p>

Hi everyone,

I’m a junior currently and plan on applying to NOrthwestern’s HMPE next year. I am listing some of my current stats for now, but I realize they are incomplete and I still have a lot to accomplish. I just want your opinions on what I can do to better my chances, as well as any suggestions or comments. Thanks for all your help.

I plan on studying for the SAT II Chem and Math II this summer, but I am worried about my math score. It seems I can do pretty well in math as far as the ACT is concerned, but in the PSAT and also numerous SAT practice tests my math is never above 700. Any suggestions, or am i kinda stuck where I am in math? I reviewed a lot for math before this past May sat but my score is still below 700.

Thank you all for your help. Any suggestions would be helpful, along with how to compensate for my generally lower math scores. I’d really like to get accepted into this program, and i realize i have a lot to do. Any advice you guys can give would mean a lot.

sorry about the double post. I reposted my question in a different thread b/c i wanted answers on my chances at other med programs, not just at HPME (thought my question fit more of the category of chances and med programs in general). unfortunately, i can no longer edit my post, so if you would, please reply to my question here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=4222476</a></p>

thanks.

hi guys,

sorry to interrupt the flow of this…but for HPME, do applicants need to have an SAT II Chem . IF so, when should all testing be completed by?

Thanks!

SAT Chem II is a must. All tests should be finished before Dec. test date.
Good luck!

what is the retention rate for HPMErs? Do a lot of the studetns transfer out/apply to other medical school? Is it common that any of the students are denied admission into NW med school because they didn’t fulfill something during their undergrad years?

those of you who got accepted to HPME…what were your sat ii scores? i got 700+ on mine, but im worrried that theyre too low to have a shot here.

should we sumbit a one-sitting or highest composite?

just all the sat ii’s that you took and what you got

is a 730 for the sat ii chem high enough to apply with, or do u think i should take it again. does taking subject tests multiple times look bad? thanks!

I got a 710 on my chem…is that really bad? Do I still have a chance or should I retake?

oh and do we have to take the bio sat II?

I am pretty sure we only need Math II and Chem to apply for HPME

Is a 32 on the ACT competitive enough?

my sat iis were

700 chem
750 math ii

any chance?

the HPME brochure that the dean of NW sent me personally b/c he wanted me to apply…jk…anyways, the brochure says average chem SATII is 765 for accepted kids, 780ish for mathii and 33 or 34 for ACT. I got 770 chem, 800 math ii, and 33 ACT, but my grades probably aren’t as good as other accepted kids.

Oh…lets say i want to send only my act score, but i have to send my sat ii scores, right. Then will HPME see my sat scores, since college board sends all your scores even when you specified only one?

Yeah, you have to send all the scores, so although you can choose to send your act score as well, they can still see your sat. Although, they do say that they take the higher one…

Also, i remember reading somewhere in this forum on one of the pages way back from maybe a year ago that once you get an interview the test scores don’t really matter. Can anybody elaborate on that?
