I’m pretty sure the GPA counts all the years of high school. Can we move this discussion to a new thread? this thread is huge and unwieldly haha

is there like even a slight chance with a score of ACT of 29 to get into the HPME at northwestern?? what about the regular northwestern admission?

As far as I know, the answer would be no for HPME. It looks like that program is one of the most selective in the country for anything. I found these stats earlier in the thread.

HPME Admitted Student Profile:
Top 1% of high school class
SAT 1 verbal 760
SAT 1 math 775
ACT composite 34
SAT II Chem. 765
SAT II Writing 750
SAT II Math 2C 785

Application Information:
Approximately 900-1000 sent inquiry cards
Approximately 700 received supplemental application
90% of applicants completed the supplemental application.
140 applicants were invited to interview
Approximately 60 students were offered admission to fill 50 spaces.

As far as applying to the regular school, why not? They look at more than just a test score, and it just might work out.

There are only 22 HPMEs this year although I don’t know how many people turned it down.

Hey im new to the forum and was wondering how would applying early decision to general admission correlate with applying to HPME…

either way I WANT TO GO TO NU…but Id def go with HPME as a priority

also…does HPME look at PSAT’s at all, because the test date is coming up but I am taking the ACT around the same time as the PSAT test date and I only want to focus on one test at a time, so I was wondering if you would reccomened going for a national merit scholar and puting the act off untill the date in april

This may seem stupid but if anyone here wants to explain how being asian american can be a disadvantage when applying to programs thatd be great…I know this is kind of random but Ive read that numerous times on many other threads and was wondering if its true.

jonthelin,

I heard they were gonna make the class smaller (reason: med school wants a more diverse student body and more selective hpme students as the med school’s regular admission is getting more competitive). Maybe they didn’t accept that many to begin with.

What makes this program so competitive? Why do so many people apply? What is special about this? Full ride? Excuse my ignorance.

yea i also heard about them possibly decreasing class size but i cant find any solid sources to solidify this

and what makes hpme so great is that its a combined program meaning with acceptance into hpme you are likewise accepted into the feinsberg school of medicine. This takes off all the ridiculous pressure of the highly competitive process known as applying to med school. It also takes the long process of becoming a doctor and shortens it by a year.

Sam Lee’s right, they are decreasing the class size and eventually phasing out HPME all together, so get in while you still have a chance.

Theyre Phasing It Out All Together?

No. I haven’t seen or heard anything about phasing it out all together.

Do you guys know if we have to send in the common application in along with the HPME request card? I am currently under the impression that we can just send in the card first and submit the undergrad application later (along with the HMPE app, if we receive one). However, discussions on this board have been wavering… Can someone clarify? Thanks, merci, danke (sp?)!

You’re right, send card first to get an id #.

i sent my card first. havent even started on the regular app

did you guys all get cards in the mail already? I requested for one in august and haven’t recieved it yet :(

how much time does the admission office give us to do the HPME app? becuase it would be at least 2/3 short answers right? and what topics are they usually? I just want to be prepared :P

due date was 1/1/2007 last year.

yeah it’s due jan. 1
there are three questions and you get 2 pages to respond to all three

on the hpme app request card when it asks number of years taken of a certain subjects does that include my senior year classes too or only courses that are completed?

If a student has a 2150 SAT and a 32/33 ACT, would programs consider such applicants? What about Brown’s PLME program?

any advice would be great
