Northwestern HPME Part 1

Haha TheF. I was planning to go to Michigan Ave too.I wanted to check out the new Macbook Air at the Apple Store, but I ended up getting a tour of the area from a friend in HPME and being busy all the next day cuz of the interviews. Maybe you’ll be luckier and find some time :-)

Eason, did you go to CTD or NIH this summer?

easonh89:

interviewers are students at the med school

bballdude: how did your interview go?

and please don’t ask about interview questions. just prepare yourself for whatever you think they might throw at you.

pp- I did CTD two summers ago for the Chemistry class.

jon- Yeah, I know one person in the HPME program who is a med student now. He is in his second year now, I believe.

The HPME interview - from what I have heard from others - is just like a normal college interview, except with more of an emphasis on medicine and not just studies in general.

The biggest advice I got was, “JUST BE YOURSELF!”

Is there any special things that you have done that they have selected you guys?

— anxious

How my people were at the interview, KrishtheFish?

I am just trying to see if all the people for the interview have been notified.

I haven’t interviewed yet. Mine is the 8th of February.

me2008-There were two other people at my interview. We got to hang out in this nice conference room with a 40ish inch plasma.

jonthelin - The interviews were great. Everyone I met was very nice and the day went by smoothly. It is a really nice campus too.

Awesome, hope you get in, bballdude!

good luck on getting those interviews everyone else! i remember how anxious my brother was last year!

this is kind of off, but did you guys get interviews for other BA/MD programs? Like Rice or Case?

yeah. i did.

So far, i’ve gotten interview offers at VCU, Boston U., Penn State/Thomas Jeff, Cincinnati, Akron (NEOUCOM), Kent State (NEOUCOM), and Youngstown (NEOUCOM). The only other two med programs i’ve applied to are George Washington and Case, and I haven’t heard anything from them (except that I got into undergrad at Case. =] )

cool!! when did you get your case acceptance?

oh ahha NVM! I got in too!! I just checked the online thing :)

The only other BA/MD program I’ve applied to is the professional scholars program at Wash U in St. Louis. It is a pseudo BA/MD program imo.

So have you guys been notified about interviews for HPME yet? My friend just recieved a rejection letter a few days ago but I haven’t heard anything yet.

esj: there is a broad range of things that people do to get into HPME (some do lots of volunteer service, some shadow doctors, some do research). The thing that we all have in common is academic success (good scores, good grades, some awards) and a very strong desire to pursue a career in medicine.

personally, i entered into a lot of competition while I was in high school (was moderately successful), i did some odd 250+ hours of service at a local hospital, and did research at UCLA for 3 summers. nothing too special

hey all,

just wondering about research abstracts…i sent mine in to northwestern on their online app i think. did I have to send a copy to HPME directly as well or would they have gotten it from Northwestern? if I did have to send one in directly can I fax one in now or is it too late? Does it matter because I did list research as one of my activities…

Thanks again

i would e-mail it or fax it right away. the HPME office is on an entirely different campus from the undergrad admissions office. information that you want the HPME office to see should be submitted on the HPME app.

I also have a research abstract that i sent to undergrad but would like HPME to see. Jonthelin, what is the e-mail address that we can send them to?
