Northwestern RD Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

I love your positivity…good luck, i am sure u will go somewhere amazing!! hope u got into emory lol

Congratulations to all those that were accepted! My D was rejected. Tough week… Rejected from Johns Hopkins and Emory as well. She still has many great options and still waiting on a few more. Looking forward to the waiting game finally ending.

rrrrbbb2015: My impression is that NU looks for real interest and weeds out applicants with incredible stats but no compelling reason to want to come to NU. If you can’t visit, you can demonstrate interest in other ways. Best chance by far is to apply ED. Also do your research and write a strong “Why NU” essay. I can only understand the rejection of so many applicants with outstanding academic and extra-curricular credentials by hypothesizing that NU looks hard at “fit” and seeks to admit applicants who really want to come to NU, rather than those who are applying to a dozen or more of the most selective universities indiscriminately.

waitlisted. international applicant. 34 act. no SAT II’s. I don’t know how I feel about this, I’ve already been accepted by another top school but this has made me really scared for ivy’s.

Accepted for CS, International applicant…
SOOO HAPPY!!!
Congrats to all those who got in and to those who were rejected - there are many other good schools out there for you.

UT, stats?

Thrilled our S admitted RD to McCormick-- and more than a little surprised. GPA 3.96UW, SAT 1400 so it clearly wasn’t numbers. Half Asian, from large metro area with large pool of other great applicants. Unusual ECs, killer internship, second generation NU, LOTS of demonstrated interest (summer program on campus, repeated visits, engaged with several students). No interviews with admissions/alumni

We think the engagement, and especially the essay was more important than legacy status-- it was clever and funny, but most important identified very specific and memorable highlights of his interactions with NU and individual students. Told them why he really cares about NU. At the end of the day, there were 40,813 other candidates, many of whom are smarter, more accomplished, have parents who’ve donated more money! But the AO must have seen that he knows and cares about Northwestern and that apparently made the difference.

Accepted to Medill Wednesday and so excited! For everyone who didn’t get in, keep your heads up, there’s a place for us all.

Make sure to attend the events which are “close” to you if you can’t come to Evanston. Follow in Instagram, Snapchat and reference things you learned there in your applications.

https://dailynorthwestern.com/2018/03/24/campus/northwestern-acceptance-rate-falls-to-8-4-percent/

It confirms that these year ~5-10% increase in application pool had resulted in ~1-3% dent in acceptance rate compare to last few years.

S rejected. 34 ACT. 101 average, lots of EC’s, leadership and 2 varsity sports. Also rejected by UVA. Admitted to WashU, Michigan, UNC, Syracuse, USC (SoCal) and William and Mary. This is a tough process to predict.
Congrats to all who got in!
