Northwestern Transfer Applicants Fall 2019

Hey guys, just got accepted last night so I figured I would post my stats for those that are curious. I submitted my application a few days before the March 15 deadline and had all my materials in at that time (not that that has any real significance in terms of when I received my decision.) I’m currently a freshman electrical engineering student at University of Vermont.

Decision: Accepted, Mccormick School of Engineering
Applied from: University of Vermont
Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.92, lots of intro to engineering and freshman intro courses
HS GPA: 3.52, strong upward trend with straight A’s in 6 AP classes senior year
ACT: 34
SAT II Math II: 800
AP’s: 4s and 5s on a bunch
Midterm Report: A’s in all classes, Multivariable Calc, Discrete Structures, Physics for Engineers II, Advanced Engineering Design, MATLAB for Engineers
Awards: State Scholar, High School Honor Society, UVM Dean’s List
Activities: IEEE(Project Leader Position), Alternative Energy Racing Organization member, Entrepreneurship Club, Volunteered at local food shelter

Good luck to everyone still waiting for decisions!

So are people who didn’t get anything last night forced to wait until next Wednesday, or is there a possibility of a wave tonight?

@broobro I don’t think they ever release waves on thursdays or 2 days in a row, so probably next Wednesday

Hi guys, I am applying to the communication school. So far how many NSoC applicants on this thread have been accepted? Just curious… and also does anybody know if the international applicants usually get their results in the final rounds? Because I am international and none of my friends have gotten results so far and we all applying to different majors…

I have a friend who is international, she was accepted in mid April. By the way, I’m also international and I haven’t heard from NU yet. Hope this helps!

@mmmftrans thanks! Do you by any chance know what school your friend applied to? And do you mind sharing your major?

for those accepted may 1, is our response deadline may 21st?

She applied to Weinberg, also my major is Bio/pre-med.

since northwestern admission is on a rolling basis, does it mean that the later we get our decisions, the more competitive it becomes to get acceptance? and is the rolling admission random or in a specific order???

@“wanrong30@gmail.com”

I thought rolling admissions meant that they give decisions based on when you complete your application… but also previous years have had people accepted in even late May so i dont think it necessarily becomes more competitive the later you find out…

High School: New Jersey, public, very competitive
HS GPA: 3.85 UW, 4.42 W
HS AP’s: APUSH (5), AP Lang (5), AP Lit, AP German, AP Psychology, AP Calculus AB (I didn’t take the AP tests for those)
College: Scripps College, Current Freshman
College GPA: 11.25 on a 12 scale (3.75 with conversion)
Some EC’s and Accomplishments: HS Volleyball (JV and Varsity captain), Poetry (published twice), Screenwriting Club, Dean’s List

SAT’s: 1430 super-scored (710 Math, 720 Reading)
Essays: Pretty strong, I’m confident in my writing abilities
Recommendations: Presumably strong, 2 academic, 1 from my Dean

Accepted as a Neuroscience major

I applied a few days before the deadline-just goes to show how random the release is.

@SSAG Congrats! Would you share why you are transferring? Looking at your stats, I am wondering - was Elon too easy for you? Did you just want a better brand college? Thanks!

@1stTimeThruMom Yeah np

I was pretty disappointed with how I faired as a 1st year applicant, denied from basically all my schools (including NW) so transfer was in my mind from the start. At Elon, I did make a lot of friends and I have had some great professors. My chem professor is amazing and both my German teacher and the head of the department offered to write recs for me which was nice considering those are both my major professors. However, Elon’s diversity is something that I was always disappointed with. The facilities are amazing, the kids are nice, the professors are good, but, somehow, every single kid I met fit the Elon stereotype oh too well: in greek life, a comm/marketing major, and from just outside of Boston. As a middle eastern student, I really felt singled out, not by people, by just by looking at the people around me. It made me feel bad for the students who are racial minorities. Getting my grades took a lot of hard work, but for many classes, especially the ones outside my majors, they were pretty easy. There are also a few culture issues and other things but that is the main bulk. Any other questions about Elon, NW, or anything else you can think of? I hope I helped.

Accepted from T20 as sophomore transfer
3.6 UW HS GPA (Prep School) / 4.0 College GPA / 1540 SAT / Mediocre ECs

Talked about the flexibility between NU’s academic divisions, the variety of minors and certificates to choose from, and the benefits of being close to Chicago in my “Why Northwestern” statement

I heard that the later your wave is, the more competitive the application is. Is this true?

@hyzkxo I think I answered the same question from you in NYU Thread…
For NU, it is hard to say…

Yes, it’s me. Thanks!

Accepted CAS, rising junior. White male.

College: Top 15 private university
College GPA: 3.43
ACT: 35
HS unweighted GPA: 3.84
