Norway - 2027, maybe?

I think I’d like to take a trip to Norway. We often do guided cycling trips, but much of the cycling there may be too difficult for us (unless we use e-bikes I guess, but so far we’re not considering that).
I would like to do a “multi-adventure” kind of trip, but nothing too exciting - no zip lining, no climbing with ropes, no high level white water rafting. Some hiking, biking, and kayaking would be great. Oh yeah, and no camping - we are work hard then relax and sleep in a nice bed kind of travelers. I don’t THINK we want a cruise, but I would consider if one seemed to be what we want.
I know Backroads has a trip we may consider, but any other suggestions? Right now this is just an idea for 2027.

We are looking to do a backroads trip to Norway in ‘27 too! Will follow along to hear ideas!

I have cycling friends who just left for a 2 week trip. One week is a cruise and the second involves cycling. I believe they use e-bikes as they’re in their seventies, but very fit. I’ll report back on their trip in a few weeks!

Norway is at the top of our list, but I am not real active. We want to combine a land tour with this cruise

My daughter and her husband went to Norway last year. It was spectacular. They planned it themselves.

Highlight for them was this resort. https://nusfjord.com/

My daughter and her husband went on an inn-to-inn trip I Scotland. All of their luggage was transported while they hiked. I imagine that the same trip could be done with bikes. Their walk was through the Trossachs, but I think that there are a variety of them.

We did this adventure but chose to go with Havila Voyages instead of Hurtigruten. Havila’s ships are much newer and were built with the hybrid cruise/working ferry model in mind. It was an absolutely wonderful trip.

We did these back to back

Yes - we have done lots of trips like that, but not in Norway. We generally go on guided, as opposed to self-guided, but they are both nice options.

Those look like nice tours. How did you like them? We are hoping for guided, but may consider self-guided.

Rick Steves has a 14 day Scandinavia tour that our friends really liked. Heavy on walking and it’s pretty social, as you get to know your group of 24-28 people well.

I personally would consider a cruise, to not have to keep moving around and an easy way of transport. I am, however, not interested in the big boat mass cruises anymore. Small boat, luxury cruises, perhaps the Scenic Eclipse, Ponant, Silversea, something like that. It’s a completely different deal than the 4,000 passenger deal. And I like the cruises with everything included, particularly excursions.

I’m following with interest. I’m considering Sweden, Norway and maybe Denmark next year. Another idea is Ireland. I don’t think I can get my husband on an organized guided trip or cruise.

I did them with my son between middle school and high school. I love their tours. We’ve done several others (Switzerland, Italy and Spain in addition to the linked ones). They’re not fancy accommodations, but rather clean, quaint, friendly family run inns for the most part.

We just came back from may-june 3 week trip through Scandinavia, including Norway. We didn’t do any biking and not much hiking. My friend planned it all herself. It was fabulous. People were very friendly and scenery was amazing. If she hadn’t planned, I’d probably have booked a small group tour. As it was, we caught trains, buses, overnight ferries, and local transit. The weather in May was perfect—only a few sprinkles, mostly in Finland. Not too cold but 60s-70s most of the time.

We even stayed a few nights in a hostel apartment in Stockholm. Alas, we were in wrong season for northern lights but saw some tulips & other flowers.

Shhhh, but there weren’t many tourists when we were there in early May. They started arriving in late May—in hordes!

We used Fjord Tours to book their self-guided Norway-in-a-Nutshell tour from Oslo to Bergen via Flam. From Bergen we did a Viking cruise. But Fjord Tours offers several tour options: Norway in a Nutshell® and other popular tours

We did Norway in a Nutshell for part of our trip too. Great for fjords.

We just deposited on a Backroads trip. We’re going to fly into Oslo, spend a couple of days, take the Flam Railway to meet up with our group, do the tour, and then spend a few days in Bergen before we fly home from there. D is coming with us so it’s a bit pricier than we had initially planned but I’m looking forward to it! Looks like lots of hiking plus day cruising on the fjord.

We did opt for full travel insurance just in case something happens since it’s a year from now.

Did you consider other group tour options? If so and you’re willing to share, please PM me other info. I haven’t done much research yet but need to start.

I looked briefly at country walkers but the hikes weren’t challenging enough. We have family that have used backroads and raved about their trips so we just went with their recommendation since the itinerary and distances worked for us.

I went to Turku in March and then had the most amazing authentic sauna experience in the woods on the archipelago. Fantastic even in winter.
