Never tried them on, but have heard they are great “mom” jeans. I looked up the various styles and was hoping someone might have some advice for me. I’m tall and curvy, wearing a size 16-18. I don’t like tight legs, so no skinny type jeans. Which style would work? Thanks in advance!
I’m looking forward to the answers to this question, though as a short older mother who doesn’t like low rise jeans.
I got a pair of black NYDJ at Nordstrums rack. They are stretchy and definitely not low waisted. Very comfy.
This might surprise you but my hipster daughter in one of the hippest high schools in NYC is on the hunt for “mom jeans”. She looks through the used clothing stores in the Lower East Side (hipsterville) and Williamsburg (another nyc hipsterville) for mom jeans. This may be the new trend for teens.
You guys are trendsetters!
To get her look, you may also want to shave your head and wear army boots. . . or maybe not. You know, you do you.
@Dustyfeathers , my daughter has started to wear mom jeans too. I haven’t seen this particular brand , but I have found a style of Levis that I really like. Not low rise, no sequins or bling and not skinny jeans. Comfortable and flattering
The higher rise jeans are coming back.
shellz - you need to try on different brands to see what works on you. I am 5’7" and my waist is small compared to my hips. I bought one pair of NYDJ and never really liked them on me. I have tried many different brands and have found that the jeans that fit me best are from Banana Republic. I own a paid their hi rise sKinnies that I love.
Mom jeans are definitely a trend right now. Pac Sun has jeans called mom jeans and my daughter loves them.
SNL skit on Mom Jeans:
There are just so many “models” of the NYDJ. I think I like the Barbara (I think that was the name) but I’m not sure…it’s early here and my thoughts are not yet fully caffeinated. I hate trying on jeans. The idea of standing in that dressing room with that awful lighting…blah.
@FallGirl will try the BR jeans. thanks!
@Dustyfeathers lol…I just cut 5 inches off my hair…and I feel bald. Does that count?
I have worn NYDJ for years. I am kind of petite (short), so I like the fact they have petite. They are very comfortable because they are stretchy. At the same time I think they are stylish. My mother just got a pair a year ago, now she shops for them whenever they go on sale.
I tried on a pair at Nordstrom’s and my impression was that they were designed for “Stacy’s mom” rather than your average mom.
As for me, I wear J.Jill jeans.
I never heard of these but that explains why my D has some higher waist jeans now!
@fendrock I just browsed the J Jill website. It appears the boot cut style sits below the waist and has some funky front pockets. I’m weary from hiking up my pants all the time… Lol
About NYDJ - Highly recommend. Best selection at Nordstrom and Macy’s in my area. Most contain 2 - 4 % spandex so they “give” and hold in the stomach area. Being “curvy” the boot cut styles work well for me. They have endless styles/cuts so try on a few to see what works best for you. Company recommends wearing one size lower than your true size. I wash on hand wash cycle and air dry - they seem to last forever so worth the slightly high $.
"Not Your Daughter’s Jeans: - That is actually a label ??!
Yes…NYDJ is a label. And like others I really like them…a LOT. They usually have them at Nordstrom Rack for about $35. Sometimes less. Retail is about 2-3 times that price. But the things wear like iron…some of mine are several years old and look new.
Totally worth the price!
I also get Gloria Vanderbilt jeans…which fit me exactly the same way. $15 at Costco.
Gloria Vanderbilt jeans are still around?
Yep…I bought a pair of black cords at Costco in Ohio last winter. Can’t beat the price!
@thumper1:
'Yes…NYDJ is a label. And like others I really like them…a LOT."
I’m not a big jeans wearer, as the last I bought were some button-fly Levi bootcut jeans that completely broadcast ‘smashing!’ when I wore them. Felt in my prime. That was about 6 years ago, though.
I’ll have to go look for this label, and break out my ankle boots. Maybe even some…what? Gloria Vanderbilt? You’re blowing my mind, @thumper1.
I have a few brands of jeans that I wear. I mostly wear jeans! NYDJ are terrific. I also like GV…and you can’t beat the price. I have a couple of pairs of bandelino blu in my closet. They fit great too.
I am on the short side but I have LONG legs…so I need pants that come in a long length…or run long. All of these do one or the other.
