Not your daughter's jeans

Um, I think there is a difference between “high waisted jeans” and “mom jeans”. Yes, younger women are wearing lots of high waisted jeans, but it’s a totally different high waisted look and the similarity stops there - they are NOT mom jeans from the waist down!

My kid has tried on NYDJs. They are a good cut for her all the way to the ankles. YMMV. Oh…she is. Size 2.

@abasket: Um, I think there is a difference between “high waisted jeans” and “mom jeans”.

Alright, Ladies…I tend to do most of my shopping at the dining room table,on the computer, but I’ll use some time this week to walk into a store (blaahhh…)

Look at Nordstrom Rack. I think you can order online.

Point being, don’t think that high waisted are back in so need to go shopping when you have those 12 year old Levi high waisted mom jeans in the closet!

The hipster kids are searching the thrift stores for the true mom jeans – the dorkier and more barf-worthy the better. My beautiful daughter came home with a pair with an elastic waist that looked truly gross on her. She was thrilled. I was ready to cry.

Not recommended if you are over 23, but that’s the style among the kids!

(Abasket – i think you mean the 22-year-old jeans in the closet, right? 12 years ago was 2004; the height of the super low rise, extreme boot cut era. I’ve got some of those in my closet. I don’t think it was possible to find high waisted jeans in 2004!)

^^haha - you may be right - I know they have been out of my closet for a long, long time! I just picked a past year out of the hat!

If I tried to wear jeans from 22 years ago, I’d have to spin backwards around the Earth, and drag all of you with me!

I got rid of all my mom jeans after watching Stacy a few years ago on “what not to wear” and haven’t bought any jeans since then.
When I went looking for that advice I found these specific statements:

Also about turtlenecks, which I used to wear often but don’t now: Turtlenecks – they’re

I kept one pair of straight leg - non-spandex old fashioned mom jeans from the 80s and they will still fit. Perhaps I will have to haul them out just for fun/grins when S3 is home from college, but wow the thought of jeans without a tiny bit of spandex is scary. My guys never could pull off the hipster skinny jean look and even they discovered a touch of spandex several years ago. My H has worn the same size, brand and style of jean he wore when I met him…prolly still has pairs from back then. He was a Levi shrink to fit and Cinch guy for life. He wouldn’t touch anything with spandex.

That is true. Turtlenecks visually shorten your neck making the boobs appear bigger, plus, the “uniboob” effect they create is not flattering at all!

I have never heard of this problem, with the turtlenecks. These conversations crack me up.

I love NYDJ, they last really well and their pockets are just (barely) big enough for a cell phone - a must in my book. I do find that they have very inconsistent lengths, so it’s worth it to try them all. One pair I own has bling on the butt and is pretty skinny. So not that Mom-ish.

I have two pairs of Gloria Vanderbilt (stretchy) cords and agree the Costco price is great and they have a similar fit.

The credit goes to Youlookfab blog (can be found by googling “youlookfab and turtleneck”)

I have a bunch of mock turtlenecks to wear under sweaters. I don’t like regular ones.

But back to jeans. I wear them just about every day…I have NYDJ in a handful of colors, both denim fabric and cords.

And I also have Gloria Vanderbilt likewise.

Most of my NYDJ came from Nordstrom Rack. Agree about lengths…you gotta try them on.

I buy my GV jeans from Costco for under $20/pair. They look good and are comfy. Sometimes I order them online because they don’t bring in many size 4, 6 or 8. They last long enough and are nicely priced.

I’ve tried other brands in the stores but am satisfied with GV.

^^You hid your actual size in there, right, @HLmom? You don’t vacillate between those sizes, do you? (If you were, say, particularly lactose intolerant, as I am.)

Actually, I have jeans/slacks in all those sizes, purchased in GV brand from Costco. You really have to try it on and see how it fits. One year, I put 3 sizes over one another and the main difference between them was the length, seriously. I’ve been about the same weight for the past few decades, give it take up to 10 pounds.

Anyway, is this a competition or “truth or consequences”? I find the plain cotton slacks cooler than those with Lycra. I do like Ponte pants and jeggings as well. They’re very comfortable.

Thank you all! I guess I need to actually go try them on. I do so love Amazon Prime, though! And Amazon does carry them…but not at the Nordstrom Rack price.

@shellz they aren’t always at Nordstrom Rack…but I’ve usually found them. They are on the round clearance racks in front of the shoes…that’s where the $35 ones are found.
