Just to clarify as DD is freaking out right now that Coalition App for VT does not require the main Coalition App essay on the four prompts?
Thank you.

Thank you.
Sorry meant just the four prompts.
The four short answer prompts are all that is required.
Hi. Please can you clarify that the only essays for VT admission are the four short answer essays? We do not submit the main essay via the Coalition app? Thank you so much!
@fairfaxgator -
I have this same question!! Did you get a definite answer?
Call admissions and they will tell you that the four short answer essays are all that is required. They will also confirm that the main coalition app essay is not required.
@LeastComplicated Thank you! I was going to call first thing this morning. Would they even read the Coalition Essay if included?
They’ll have close to 30,000 apps to read for a total of 120,000 short responses. I really doubt they’ll dig deeper. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.
VT has a scholarship portal with many individual scholarships asking for essays. Use the Coalition App essay there. Tweak it to fit the essay prompts, if possible.
Good luck!
My daughter an OOS student applied under EA status. Are all applications on hold until February? We have received notifications from a number of other EA applications. VT is one of her top choices because of the Corps of Cadets. We are eager to review offers to make a sound decision. I am hearing all students will receive notification in February. Yikes! Any information is appreciated.
@TeamBlessing I would get comfortable with the Feb 22 date that VT gave. They typically don’t release early.
@FourStars From what I saw of the VT Coalition App, there wasn’t even a way to include the long essay. If I’m wrong and there was a place to submit it, I hope someone will correct me.
You absolutely do NOT include the coalition essay. ONLY the 4 short answer questions specific to VT.
Also, yes EA won’t be released earlier than Feb. VT offers early decision for kids who want to know before Christmas. Some kids who applied ED have already gotten decisions, like local Blacksburg H.S. students and kids who auditioned ED for various performing arts majors.
We only require and can only see the responses to our 4 short essays.
Just confirming, EA deadline is at 11:59pm on 12/1?
I hope so! My son is trying to finish the four supplemental essays. Was hoping he wouldn’t finish at the last minute but there seems to be no way he’ll be done today.
For the Calhoun Discovery Program is financial need taken into account in considering who will be invited? Or is the selection process purely based on merit? I have seen a lot of VT’s publicity surrounding the program promoting the fact that it gives students from underrepresented groups a chance to pursue an education, but I have seen no official statement on whether need is taken into account.
Greetings,
Please see program’s website https://honorscollege.vt.edu/cdp.html. In the scholarship section they indicate:
“We know that worrying about finances stifles imagination and innovation. We want any student, regardless of their household income, to participate. By bringing together committed donors, industry, and the university, the Calhoun Discovery Program will support students for all four years of their undergraduate education.”
Does Va Tech look at first quarter Sr year grade for EA, if it was sent to the school? There is no way to indicate first quarter grades on the SRAR.
@univbound123 No. We will not use additional grades.
@VTAdmissions Last year, ED results came 3 days early (Dec 12). Can I expect an answer from VT before Dec. 15 or will that not be likely this year?
