Plan for the 15th. If that changes we will make an announcement.
@VTAdmissions Thanks! I have 1 final question. On the requirements section in the Guest Account portal, the only thing that shows is received is the SRAR-self reporting. Is this fine?
A friend’s child who attends Blacksburg High School posted a picture of her early decision notification. Are the acceptances out already, or do you have a special agreement with Blacksburg High School? Also- how will we know if you are going to send acceptances early? Will you email the students?
Everyone remember, this account is only checked occasionally. The official method to communicate with our office is via email and telephone.
All communication about any updates will be sent via email.
Guest account information can take several days to be reflected online.
It’s a special agreement with Blacksburg High School. Kids who auditioned for performing arts in November also have their answers. The rest of us wait for 12/14.
Just curious, did anyone receive an email directly from Virginia Tech after applying Early Action? My son submitted his EA application last week (Wed, 11/28) through Coalition App. For other schools he applied to, he usually got an email from both the Coalition App and the College confirming receipt of application. He did get an email from the Coalition App, but not from VT. We’re just hoping nothing went wrong. Thanks!
@jimmym My son submitted his app on 10/8 and received a confirmation (Application Status Page) email on 10/24.
@STEM2017 On the requirements section in the Guest Account portal, the only thing that shows is received is the SRAR-self reporting. Is this what it shows on your son’s portal or is there anything else?
@hunchojack Just the SRAR section.
@STEM2017 and @hunchojack Isn’t the SRAR the only thing that should be received since grades and test scores are self reported and LOR are not accepted?
I think a final transcript and test scores are submitted only if accepted and planning to enroll?
@LeastComplicated Yeah, that’s what I think. I was just worried that there should be more things listed under requirements, but I guess it’s just the SRAR.
Thanks @STEM2017 - ironically, my son received the confirmation email from VT early this morning - so it took 6 days.
It is my understanding that as of the 2018 incoming freshman class you can no longer transfer into engineering/COE. The path from university studies or other majors to engineering is not a viable path anymore. I believe some parents posted that it was in acceptance letters. So perhaps VT did a study, and when they accepted kids who had slotted #1 major as engineering, and #2 any other major - were accepted to second choice and then told not possible to transfer to COE - perhaps only a very low percentage of students accepted that offer of admission to 2nd choice. I suspect admissions studied this pretty closely last year.
last year parents said acceptance letters said no transfer into COE very clearly.
Watch your guest accounts on the 15th. The office stated by 5pm that will have them posted
Early Action applicants have to wait 5 weeks after Early Decision for an answer.
But Regular Decision applicants only have to wait 1 1/2 weeks after Early Action applicants for their answer.
I feel kind of silly rushing S19 to make the EA deadline.
The 15th is Saturday - do you think they will post them on Friday, the 14th?
@STEM2017 Don’t feel silly. They tell people at the admissions information sessions that if a student really wants to attend VT, then they should apply ED or EA. They’re expecting a lot of applications this year.
@AnneShirley I believe the on-site admission process is for all Montgomery Country Public Schools high schools, not just Blacksburg. But yes, they find out their decisions earlier.
My son applied EA on 12/1. He was not aware of the requirement for a SRAR. Today received the email from VT with Guest Account instructions, where we saw the section for SRAR. Was the SRAR required by 12/1? He set it up and submitted it today.
