they just did wedding weekend on food tv this past weekend. Do you ever watch semi-homemade cooking with Sandra lee (she did these cookies using refrigerated dough, got a cookie cutter in the shape of a wedding cake, baked them, frosted them used them as place cards and favors. You may be able to get some good ideas from them or catch the shows which will probably repeat sometime this week.

Thanks for thinking to write! I am sorts “Up on Jacks” as they say in my neck of the woods, where food is concerned. And it is too bad, because just about the only cooking I really enjoy is making/baking party food. My problem is that my daughter wants to get married in Swarthmore, (she lives in Philly) and I live in TN. She has a studio apartment, with very antiquated cooking facilities. Gotta feeling if I tried to do the food, . . .she’d do me in. So, we must do the caterer thing.

what time of day will this be? can you get away with heavy butlered
hors’doeuvres? An afternoon reception can cut costs quite a bit. Summers are nice for outdoor patio receptions.

Yes, momsdream, it will be at 2:00 p.m. as the plan now stands, so I think that would be great. The wedding will be in a church in Swarthmore and they hope to have to reception in the Lang Music building at Swat. (That is not yet a sure thing.) I hope it will all come together. So much now depends upon whether fiance’s roomie gets a job and makes a space in the apartment! As the Quakers say, Way will open.

That is the sort of thing I have been hoping. I think I will suggest to D that she contact the folks at Swat to see if that is possible. When H and I married a couple of years ago, the very capable staff from the boarding school kitchen (the head chef is pretty creative) did a lovely job with our reception. It, too, was in the middle of the afternoon, so I think that is the memory that my daughter thinks of when she imagines what she wants. We had lots of lovely food, and the cost was quite reasonable.

Oh, that’s perfect momofthree. People drink less alcohol in the afternoon, as opposed to the evening. If it were me, I would plan butlered hors’doeuvres and a nice jazz trio/quartet. People also like to have simple cake and champagne receptions in the afternoon.

Yea! I think we can do the music, too! Son-in-law-to-be is a conducting student at Curtis, and I betcha he can make the necessary contacts there! Sounds so festive.

Just talked to my DD, who tells me that her fiance’s roommate GOT A JOB and will be moving, so it will be possible her to move into the splendid apartment fiance has been co-renting . . .thus the plans can begin in earnest for a July wedding! I have cleared the issue of the dress (with self and ex-spouse, her father), and will be sending the $$ in the next two days, and she is so excited!! All is well! And she got a DAAD fellowship to study in Germany this summer so will combine it with her honeymoon! Sometimes the blessings are almost too much!

YUP! The fiance has just emailed the pastor of the church to find out when the church will be available. Making progress! They are okay with marrying on a Friday if all the Saturday slots are filled!

Yay! Send link to dress photos? Even though my D is only 17! I still think about which wedding dresses would look good on her! We will have to throw cyber-rice at her.

Oh, bless you momofthree - for sharing! We need some sweetness and light in this time of decision angst. Let’s start anguishing about tables of 6 vs. 8 vs. 10, assigned vs. open seating, etc. Back to Wedding Planner Central :D

Mom,just stopping in - wow, they are moving fast. But it sounds like your daughter is a level-headed girl who knows what she wants. Best wishes to her!!! (and I’d like to see the dress too!!!)

DD ordered THE dress on Saturday after a final fitting at the bridal shop! I don’t really think she tried too hard to get it for less, but she and fiance are quite clever at managing money. (WE may be eating cheetos at the reception, but she is going to be gorgeous!) Fiance got his morning suit fitted on Thursday.

So, the date has been set (in July) the church reserved, the pastor (his father) arranged, the dress and morning suit ordered!! Making progress! Now for the food and flowers! She will be home for S’s graduation for a few days in late May/early June so we can plan favors and food andstuff. I can’t wait!

And TODAY she passed her MASTER’S EXAM!!! YEA!!

Hey, that is the way that it is suppose to be. It’s her day to shine and while people are probably not going to remember the food, they will always remember how gorgeous she looked. Good her her.

The past few weeks have certainly been a whilwind for you with blessings coming at you left and right. Brown is all taken care of, the wedding is falling in to place, she’s got a great roof over her head, a honeymoon destination, and she passed her exams.

Congratulations to all for the good fortune and blessings that have come your children’s way.

waiter, more champagne!!

when all of this is over, you can breathe a collective sigh of relief and take a nap :)

I agree with you on everything you said! There are really so many abounding blessings, I can hardly take them all in. And best of all for my daughter, she has found a man who is so amazingly her match in every way, and they are so much in love, and such great friends, it is hard to believe. That is really what we will celebrate on her wedding day! He sent her some beautiful flowers she said to celebrate today. She sounded incredibly happy and relieved.

Congratulations, momofthree, such happy news! I’m so glad your daughter has found a good partner, whom you think well of. I was going to add my wedding dress buying strategy (in June or July stores will sell their “demos” for at least 50% off), but I see she has her dress.

May I suggest Bugles or something other than Cheetos? You really don’t want to get orange stuff all over your clothes (or her white dress).

I’ll be throwing virtual rice at them on their wedding day!

I finally have an image of the wedding dress for those of you patient enough to wish to see it. My D says it is much lovelier in “person” and much fuller, but I do get a sense of it!

Go to the link, and look for image 16 in the collection!
