Thank you so much!
Absolutely love your sonās remarkable accomplishments. Five years ago, similar thing happened to us with our older daughter at another Catholic University. She moved on, graduated Suma cum laude from a selective university and has a great career ahead of her. Be strong and know that your son will do well in life regardless of where he goes.
thank you so much! What a nice reply.
Hello. I was recently selected as an alternate for a scholarship program at Notre Dame. Does anyone know the likelihood of me being selected for this scholarship and the timeline of when I will find out?
Daughter applied REA deferred and accepted RD.
35 ACT 3.9/4.0 GPA.
Has been battling stage 4 cancer for 13 years of and on (surviving 4 relapses). Hundreds possibly thousands of days in treatment. Brilliant in comp sci. Raised more than $6 million for pediatric cancer research through speaking engagements and her own foundation. Varsity golf, comp sci tutor and mentor. Summer camp counselor.
Right now weāre trying to make a decision as to the best fit for her. We definitely want a caring community that will look out for her and help her through any physical difficulties. She has been accepted into higher ranked comp sci programs but ND just seems like a caring place.
What an incredible young lady you have, I am deeply sorry she has had to fight through so much in her young years. Absolutely stunning what sheās accomplished.
Weāve been researching and tortured between a few schools and I came upon this yesterday. I am going to copy and paste, written in 2020. Itās truly what I hope the community will beā¦
My father was diagnosed with cancer shortly before the end of my sophomore year at Notre Dame. He passed away the day after Thanksgiving my senior year. I was fortunate to be home for the Thanksgiving break, as our whole family was around him when he passed. I made a phone call to Father Thomas King, Rector of Zahm Hall, to explain that I wouldnāt be returning to school for another week and asking if he could let my aunt into my dorm room to pick up my two suits so I would have something to wear at the wake and funeral.
When my aunt arrived at the dorm, she didnāt have to go to my room because the suits were already in a garment bag with shirts and ties, hand delivered by Father King. I received a number of calls expressing condolences from dorm mates I had never given my home phone number. I received a letter of condolence from Patty OāHara, including permission to reschedule my upcoming finals to whenever was convenient for me. The parents of a freshman in my dorm drove an hour to attend the wake and offer their condolences, even though they had never met me before. Upon returning to the dorm, I found a mini-memorial site including flowers and cards from people who didnāt live in Zahm and a sympathy card attached to a poster board with sympathy notes from more than one hundred and fifty people who resided in my dorm. All of that because I made one phone call asking if my aunt could pick up some suits.
I donāt know many schools where things like that happen
Congratulations to you daughter and family - what an inspiring person she is! I am surprised that she was deferred from REA but glad to hear the acceptance eventually came through. I hope Notre Dame will be a good fit for her.
As an aside, if your username you is your acrual name, you should change it as per site moderators who I am sure will tell you the same shortly.
Thank you so much for the advice. We think she was deferred from REA because one of her fall midterm exam grades was marked incomplete due to her being hospitalized with an experimental targeted radioisotope/chemotherapy. She completed the exam the following week and her transcript was updated. We are blessed that she is in full remission and ready to move on with life. Iām so excited to see which school she decides to attend as sheās been through so much and weāre ready to see her thrive.
RD. Just heard back hours ago from glynn!
Same, mine is very excited about the program.
Anyone have any idea as to what to expect from the waitlist this year? Are we still thinking the majority of decisions come May 3rd-5th, or could that change given that itās a weekend?
Just a guessā¦I think it will be a little later because of the FAFSA debacle. Maybe not significantly later but slightly later than usual. Despite filling it out toward the early end, my sonās FAFSA was just processed on May 2nd at ND, which is after the typical decision date. Many folks canāt commit without knowing their financial aid situation.
Good point, that makes sense.
I know someone who got off the waitlist today! Good luck!
Did they get a call? What area are you from?
Yes they got a phone call
has anyone else got off the waitlist, traditionally this is the last day
was wondering the same thingā¦havenāt heard anything here yet (may 16th), but also wondering if decisions could be delayed because of all of the issues with fafsa/financial aid
