ND is not just test scores. We have so many examples of that being the case over the years at our school. We know kids with high 1500s rejected or deferred and others who were low 1500s accepted. I do not know if there is a “secret” to it. We even had a Leadership kid rejected when everyone usually assumes Leadership equals acceptance. It’s stressful!
Yes. I saw the same posted in the Observer.
There is no doubt about it that ND is very Catholic and it is a large part of their undergraduate culture. Theology is a required course, there is an undergraduate path that includes a seminary, each dorm literally has a chapel and holds Mass on Sundays and weekday Mass is very common and popular. There is a priest assigned to each dorm and a few have/ had nuns as their rectors. It’s a fabulous community and amazing school but just know it is at heart a Catholic institution and it’s mission driven by that.
Did anyone else submit a Glimpse video? We did not realize until late in the process that ND accepts Glimpse, so my child did it and submitted but it seems to be new for ND this year (I think?) so I cannot find any feedback. I wonder how many submit and does the committee actually watch all of these videos?!
My D26 did know about it, but making one would’ve put so much more pressure on her that it wasn’t worth it. She’s an introvert and perfectionist, so the video would’ve taken hours and hours to make. Maybe if she had found out about it in the summer.
Hi everyone,
Thoughts on whether to submit “optional” first quarter grades for REA? My son has 5 APs, 3 orchestra/band classes. He has As in all, except for two B+ in AP Physics and AP Microeconomics. He plans to be a history/religion major.
Thanks for any feedback!
My daughter submitted hers. We thought it showed interest. The B+s are in hard classes, but it’s still hard to know what the right call is.
Do the first quarter grades need to be sent by the school or can it be uploaded by the student?
My daughter self-submitted a PDF of her report card. I don’t know if that’s ok or not. I know at UVA they accept students’ submissions, so hopefully ND does too.
Congrats to your son on a great first quarter!
My inclination would be to submit the grades, especially if it marks an improvement/continuation of his sophomore and junior year grades. AP physics is a hard class and the fact that he has a B+ and that he’s even taking AP Physics as a potential history/religion major is impressive!
However, I’d definitely confirm with his school counselor, especially if your school has a relationship with ND and the admissions counselor there.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!
We had so many questions on this video also. Ended up not doing it.
My D26 strongly questioned the Ethicalness of schools choosing to use glimpse video for admissions and chose not to submit any unless required
Thanks, my daughter just submitted hers as well.
My daughter emailed ND admissions and they responded that you can upload your first quarter report card (pdf or screenshot) on the application portal
Hello! I am a high school senior, and I applied to REA Notre Dame.
I am a double legacy (mother and grandfather both attended), and Notre Dame is definitely my dream school. I go to a very competitive (and well-known in the college admissions sphere) high school, and I just wanted some opinions on how my application may be viewed because I think that I have a fairly unique application. I had a very rough freshman year for several personal reasons, which I won’t discuss, but I wrote about them in my essays, and my school counselor wrote about them in his rec letter as well. They are valid reasons, and I do hope and think that college admissions counselors will view it holistically, but as a result, I finished with a 2.3 UW GPA my freshman year (my high school does not do weighted). Since then, I have recovered and shown tremendous growth, but because of my incredibly poor freshman year (and first half of sophomore year), I am applying with a 3.1 UW GPA. If I had to guess weighted, I would estimate around a 3.7. I know that these numbers don’t really reflect my true academic ability, and I am really hoping that this is evident to admissions, but the reality is, I know a 3.1 UW on paper just looks pretty bad. The trajectory is really good, and this first quarter I finished with a 3.8 UW and 4.5 weighted. My total rigor is solid: 5 APs (which is around the max my school allows because the way they are taught at my school honestly makes them very challenging) and 7 honors, and I have a 1500 SAT, hoping to have gotten a bit higher on this past November one. I am hoping my SAT helps show that my GPA doesn’t represent my true academic potential. I also have excellent activities and hundreds of hours of community service. I also feel that my essays are really strong and personal, connecting to Notre Dame really well and showing a really strong fit. Is it realistic that I get in? I have also thought that, in the scenario that I don’t, given that I know that Notre Dame is 100 percent where I want to go, I will do everything that I can to transfer after a year at a state school.
Thank you all!
Wishing you the best of Luck
hoping you get amazing news mid December!
thank you!
If ND agrees with you on this, and with the rest of your story that you explained here, I think it’s realistic, but please also understand that college admission is not always a realistic endeavor. I have seen decisions that defy any explanation.
Thanks all! My son ended up submitting his first quarter grades.
From past years, when do acceptance letters typically start going out?
