Does anyone have any advice for us deferred??
Does anyone know if Notre Dame sends our scholarship in the mail with your official acceptance letter? Or do they come later in the year if you get them? Doubt I’ll get any but a girl can dream!
I talked to an admissions officer about two months ago and she said to keep in touch with ND’s regional representatives (the ones in charge of admission). I’m assuming she meant that they would like to receive updates on how your grades and EC’s are going. She also emphasized that they want to make sure that those who are deferred are still interested in going to ND, so communication is key.
I’m in!! To everyone deferred or rejected-don’t get hung up on this one school. Each of you is smart and talented. Even if it’s the end of the road for ND, I’m sure you’ll end up going to a school you love just as much. If you’re deferred, keep your grades up, maybe write the admissions after the first semester with your grades and what you’ve been doing since you last applied. Good luck to all and God bless.
I had two daughters who were deferred and ultimately accepted. Please pm me if you have any specific questions, but the first thing I would do is email your rep and indicate that though you were disappointed with the deferral, ND is by far your first choice. Ask what advice they have that would help your application in the RD round. Both of my daughters did this, which opened up a dialogue that continued until March. (Btw both ultimately attended /are attending ND).
My daughter was deferred from ND last year and ultimately accepted RD. Please don’t give up hope. Follow up with your AC after the holidays, not tomorrow or next week. This follow up is very important and needs to be very personal. No other deferred student should be able to write your letter. Find something unique to your connection with ND. There have been many videos, reflections that could of touched you during ND 175 year celebration. Also take advantage of any opportunity to reconnect with AC to update them on accomplishments such as sport achievements, scholar athlete, employee of the month or continued growth within your church. It’s not too late to be a confirmation retreat leader or a Eucharistic Minister to bring communion to the nursing home. Your follow up letter is most important. My daughters letter could of only been written by her and I am very sure that her AC had never received anything similar to it before. Hope is not lost just a bit delayed.

How common is deferral overall at ND and what does it usually end in?
Not sure if this is true but I heard from a legacy whose parents donate a ton of money each year/know the board that RD is easier. Apparently it is less competitive…not sure why or how but I know her family donates a lottttt. She is applying RD so not a trick to weed out competition.
