Nova (Attempting Full-Ride Scholarship) or FIU (Honors College+Full Ride)?

In September, I applied to Nova Southeastern University (as per my parents’ request due to its proximity to family) and FIU (because I knew they would give me their presidential scholarship.) I was accepted to both in October, and received FIU’s scholarship package shortly afterward. I’ve gone through the motions of committing to FIU, but I haven’t formally declined Nova. Nova seems very interested in having me as a student, but I’ve mostly ignored them because I thought the best they could give me was the Dean’s scholarship (which is the equivalent to full tuition and fees.)

Today, I received a letter discussing a scholarship (that I would have to apply to) which would give me full ride (tuition and fees, room and board, and books.) In order to apply for the scholarship, I would have to submit the $200 admissions deposit, and state I intend to enroll this fall.

My main issue is discerning between the programs. I plan to study Computer Science, and have not heard anything about either school’s programs. Which is a better school? And would it be worth it to lose $500 if I applied to Nova?

Which scholarship asks you to commit now? I thought that wasn’t allowed. Also why would you lose $400 if they only want $200?

Is one of the programs ABET accredited? How advanced and diverse are the CS classes? Can you easily double major or take math classes alongside CS?
Have you visited and attended a class there?
Is proximity to family an advantage or a disadvantage from your point of view?

Nova wants me to commit now in order to apply to the scholarship. I accidentally paid my FIU tuition deposit when it was covered by my scholarship, so if I decide to go to Nova, I’ll lose $300 from FIU (I already signed up for orientation) and would have to pay $200 to confirm my admission to Nova, so that’s why I would lose $500.

FIU is ABET accredited. Nova’s CS program seems more diverse. I know that double majoring for CS is simpler at FIU. I haven’t toured either because it conflicts with my current school schedule, and I’ll only have time after the decision date has passed.

I’ll be very close to family either way. (I would stay on campus with FIU rather than at home with Nova.)

My final decision is to attend FIU. If I don’t like it there, it seems easier to transfer to Nova from FIU rather than transfer to FIU from Nova.

That is a real weird scholarship - there aren’t even any guarantees that you would get it but want you to commit without knowing for sure. Smells scammy.
