Most programs offering study abroad programs in the Middle East are pretty fluid about changing locales due to local conditions. I suspect NSLI-Y is the same, and I severely doubt they will be sending anyone to Egypt this year.
Yeah, that’s true. Tunisia and Egypt have been implemented in other programs but withdrawn due to security concerns. A country I would love to see on the map is Jordan for the full year but I don’t think that will happen
I came onto this forum to see 8 notifications and I was like “Look Emma this is what you get for not checking your email right after school, notifications already came out!” I was wrong XD But yay questions!!!~
I have so many but to make sure I don’t go overboard I will just share some. I applied for Korea summer only and so I would love to see the King Sejong statue, Gyeongbokgung palace, visit a traditional village, try on hanbok (Traditional Korean clothing ) and maybe stop by at the largest indoor theme park in the world… LOTTE WORLD!!!~ lol
I would love to be advanced in conversation… is that too much to expect? Oh well I will be studying a lot so :))
I am kinda scared for the oral exam because I indicated that I studied Korean on my own but right now that means I have a large knowledge of vocab and I am good at listening… but my speaking skills are under-developed.
- I would love to see a Buddhist Shines or visit a monastary in India. But I think I would find most of my joy from the little, day - to - day experiences in India.
- I really want to be fluent in hindi and French (I'm studying French at school).
- Not gonna lie, I did not know there was going to be a proficiency test...awkward.
Well february is ticking away~~ everyone guess when we’ll hear finalist notifications!! I say they begin within the next week
@nsliyromanov my guess is monday because semifinalist notifications came out on a Monday haha. If not then the 1st of March because semis were 1st of december.
I have a feeling it will be next week since Russia and Hindi summers got notifications on the 28th last year. But maybe the second because it is the start of a week. I just hope they come out soon, and with good news. ^^
So a lot of people are thinking year long finalist announcements are coming out in late March and to be honest that terrifies me a bit since I am also applying to YES and another program with AFS. If the NSLI-Y notice comes out in March, it could be before the YES semi-finalist interviews. Does anyone know how long you can get an extension for? I’m nervous it could be a two or three week difference between all my programs and it’s not like I can decide if I don’t know all of them
@zaneylaney i feel ya, i applied to a summer program at MIT and notifications only come out the last week of march so im not sure what to do if i get into both… but ive heard you have to confirm/deny your acceptance to nsliy within a week. im not sure what would happen if you changed your mind later though
@stvika I heard from some old NSLI-Y finalists that you could ask for an extension if you applied to more than one place. I hope thats true, but either way I’d have to make a decision pretty quickly. No time to think it over
Last year when my D went to NSLIY China program, there was one person who got in from the waiting list because the other accepted applicant decided to go to TASP. I’ve also heard from people who went to TASP that there were people who accepted there also got accepted to NSLIY and decided to go to NSLIY. The decisions of these competitive program come out about the same time. I’m sure there are ways to tell the program whether or not you will accept the offer.
The final decisions for different countries come out at different times. Last time China came out the last. It was March 25. So expect to hear about it at the end of March if you applied to China. Other countries may come out earlier.
When do China notifications come out?
I think anything is on the table this year, just because semi notifications usually take two weeks and this year they took 2 days. Also, I applied to a number of really cool summer programs too, but if I’m accepted to nsliy there’s no question about my choice.
I wish that they would come out today even though I highly doubt it. This is driving me crazy.
@wardra
I couldn’t agree more!!~ I have planned things after school and hang outs with my friends all week in hopes that it will keep my mind off the notifications. I will still be reminded every time I get an email, but at least I won’t obsess over it 24/7
I applied to 5 programs(all year long) and I’m just like -_-
@EmmaPotts
Same! I Only let myself check my email once during lunch and once after school. If not, then I will be sitting there all day with the phone during school lol.
AKA me right now in calculus lol
Same I’m so nervous! I’m a semifinalist for Korean summer as my first choice and Arabic summer as my second choice. I really hope I can get into the program because I’ve always wanted to do something like this and I’ve always loved languages.
Did you guys see the post on facebook? I think they’re gonna come out soon
