Korean summer was the last to come out for summer programs, just because you don’t need a visa. Typically Hindi comes early because the visa situation is really complicated(parents need valid passports, etc…) Same with Russian.

wait our parents need passports for Russian summer??? I haven’t applied for my passport yet because my birth certificate got stolen and it is mess trying to get a new one
By the Korean summer notifications being “the last ones to come out,” is that maybe late March?
I read a blog about a girl’s NSLI-Y 2013 Korean summer experience, and she said she didn’t get her finalist notification until early April…
I think it depends on the situation but in some cases a parent(if you’re under 18) needs a passport an yours needs to be valid for a certain period after your expected departure.

Yeah no one has received anything, I expect this thread and facebook to absolutely explode when they start. Hoping for this week
They better come out this week. If not I’m gonna have to put my phone and computer on lockdown this is making me so nervous…

@reecie569 hoping for the next two weeks or so. Nothing definite at all unfortunately. Everything is so so opaque
@reecie569 I think China comes out after Russia and India but it all depends on the length of the visa process… russia’s visa process is ridiculously expensive and lengthy and india’s probably is too

Why do year programs come out so much later than summer?
@writeallnight because summer departs earlier! They want to get the summer kids who needs visas prioritized because they leave like 3 months earlier than the year kiddos
@writeallnight Because the people who are applying for the all year programs don’t need to know as quickly as those applying for the summer programs. The all year people will have all summer to prepare their vistas and papers while those for the summer program have less time to do so. Is that helpful?
@jjtell11 @katewithak thanks guys, that makes perfect sense! Even still, I know they award fewer year scholarships than summer PLUS seniors need to notify schools ASAP…I guess I just wish it all came out at once. Oh well, wait I shall.
@writeallnight I feel the same way. Apparently Korean summer comes out last (out of the summer programs) and that is the program I applied for, so I totally understand!
