NSLI-Y 2015-2016

Actually may have been a partial scholarship…

@ishmack97 yes I was accepted into Hindi Summer. Are you going to Pune or Indore?

@wequre‌ Thank you! No,I do not have any prior Hindi experience but I am excited to learn the language :blush:
@ajreilly57‌ Congrats! I am going to Indore. How about you?

@ishmack97 same! I’ll message you

@jjtell11‌ Generally summer programs come out before year programs, so I’m pretty sure Russia year will NOT come out before Korea summer. You seem like super stressed or something, relax lol. This is the 3rd year I’m going through the NSLI-Y process so I can see why you’re anxious and all but that doesn’t help. Find something else to focus on and keep yourself occupied.

Hi everyone, I know I’m quite late to the game, but I’ve been looking at this forum for a while now, so I thought I would introduce myself. I am a senior from Phoenix, Arizona, and I applied for the China Year, Korea Year, and China Summer programs. I’ve been freaking out about notifications as well, so at least have confidence in our shared humanity! :slight_smile: Congratulations to all of those who have been notified of their finalist status!

Welcome @Ellisfeath‌

CLV looks amazing @wmila2‌ , unfortunately I don’t have enough money to go this year. XD Next year is a given thou. :slight_smile:

@ishmack97‌ Congratulations!

@wmila2‌ @katewithak‌
I SERIOUSLY LOVE CLV!!!

It is soooo expensive >~<

@EmmaPotts‌ They have a bunch of scholarships! I went on a full scholarship and ended up paying for airfare only.

@emmapotts @schnuff3 The financial need scholarship recently passed, but there are merit scholarships too! :slight_smile:

The best part about living in Minnesota is the fact that it’s a 4 hour drive up to the villages. I’m happy my parents are willing to pay for it and if you can in any way make it work, do it!!!

Do you have to live in MN? @wardra @wequre

@EmmaPotts‌
No you don’t. I don’t live in Minnesota so I just flew up there by myself

Hi. What are your dates? my daughter also got in and we were surprised how late the program started

what dates is your program? my daughter’s dates are later than expected

@middlevillage‌ what country did your daughter get accepted into?

India - Indore

@middlevillage‌ awesome me too! Tell her to message me on here. Yes the dates are quite late for Indore. I’ll be missing the first 12 days of school

If anyone is going to Pune, allow me to tell you about it.

It is situated in the Western Ghats of India, meaning that the entire area is really hilly and mountainous. Since the closest airport is in Mumbai/Bombay, you’ll get to drive through. If you’ve ever driven through Vermont or Pennsylvania, it will be a similar experience.

The overall climate is a lot like Florida, with similar culture and clothing. It’s a large city though, with millions of people and a lot to do.

Also, try to see if you can make it to Goa [India’s Monaco] or some of the local Maharashtran towns. They speak a very strange style of Hindi there, but it is really cool.
