@SeroNoEstar I’m an Arabic summer semifinalist from central TX too!
Does anyone feel like the “hype” for NSLI-Y has kind of died down this year…? I’m having a lot more trouble finding people to collaborate with and contact this year than I did last year, but it might also just be in my head. I also am having a lot of trouble trying to find Facebook groups and people to talk to in general… any thoughts? do you think there are just generally less applicants this year? like even on CC I don’t find that as many people post as they used to in past years
@mclmom has he been able to find any other Turkish semifinalists to talk to? I’d like to make a group chat, but your comment is the first I’ve seen that has said anything about the Turkish program. 
@nadinerahim Oh yeah there’s definitely been a decline for NSLIY. Two years ago 3900 people applied, last year 3500, this year was 3200 total applicants. It’s actually kind of sad to see considering this is such a great program and opportunity…

@nadinerahim I don’t think he has tried to find any NSLI-Y people - he’s had a busy year with school…

@nadinerahim Past rejection letters. I did not apply two years ago, but I heard it was 3900. I did apply last year and on the rejection letter it specifically said (this is copied and pasted) “This year’s national pool of more than 3,500 applicants.” This year’s rejection letters from what I’ve seen said roughly 3200.
I hope the lesser application pool increases our chances of becoming finalists…
So does anyone have any idea of approximately what time of the day the notifications have been sent out in the past?
Today is the day that notifications for the Russian summer programs went out last year, so hoping for good news for DS…
@yearstogo I know for the semifinalist notifications, they were sent out at around 3:30-4:00PM. I would assume that these finalist notifications will be sent around the same time but I’m not sure for a fact. Good luck to you!

How often do they give a semifinalist the second (versus first) choice?
@mclmom I heard it’s rare for them to give you your second choice but it has happened in the past.
Does anyone know when finalist notifications come out for Hindi summer?

Hindi summer is usually announced at the same time as Russian summer…which is usually the last working day in February…TODAY.
