Hey everyone! NSLI Russian and Arabic AY has DROPPED!
Do they only start rolling out after Summer program results finish coming out?
Not this year it seems, only Korean AY hasnt released but people are speculating there are more Korean cohorts to be released for summer
Iām in for Arabic AY!! If anyone else is in let me know
bad news to all Korean semi-finalists waiting on a fourth cohort- I donāt think itās going to happen, sadly. The implementing organization for Yongin, which has historically been the last cohort, is ACES, which I heard is not doing a Korean summer program this year. I also spoke to a Yongin alum personally who said that the resident director basically said ACES didnāt hire anyone this year for Yongin because they didnāt have funding. Iām really disappointed too because I was looking forward to this so you are not aloneā¦
But since no rejection emails have been sent out yet there could still be a possibility of a new cohort being created. I just wanted to give everyone an update so we donāt get our hopes up falsely.
especially with the funding they may have had to cut some korean cohorts
also im hearing that many of the Korean cohorts, mandarin cohorts, and others have been reduced in size so this year was just harder to get in as the amount of spots was greatly reduced..
Really appreciate this update you shared. Hope something magic happensā¦
Hey YES alternates! I (a YES alternate) just got upgraded to finalist for North Macedonia; keep your eyes on your email these next few days, I expect more alternates will be upgraded soon! Crossing my fingers for everyone!
I havenāt yet accepted my VSI spot, still planning out for the summer between programs and jobs and things like that. Yesterday, AFS emailed the recording of the webinar, if thatās relevant. Also yesterday, I got a rejection email for some reason from American Councils.
Someone else that got into Mandarin VSI also got a rejection email and they clarified it, I think itās a bug
How do you schools treat your year abroad? Are you allowed to go as a gap year during 11th grade and start 11th grade upon return (because the international HS you go wouldnāt necessarily offer the courses expected at a US HS, such as English or APUSH..) or do they grow you into 12th even if you havenāt taken. 11th grade classes?
I think it really depends on the school. I (currently a freshman, will be studying abroad for sophomore year) will not be retaking sophomore year entirely; however, Iāll be summer-jumping some classes (such as Algebra 2) upon return so that Iāll stay on track for core subjects. Iāve also gone over all my courses and plans for my remaining high school years to ensure that Iāll have enough credits/courses to graduate and attend college. Obviously I wonāt be able to take all the APs and Honors courses Iād initially planned to; however, what Iāll be doing (studying overseas) is equally if not more important and beneficial to both my education and my growth as an individual.
Of course, like I said, every school situation is unique; really all I can tell you is that itās best to communicate with your school and itās generally better if you start figuring all this out with your counselor as soon as possible. I started all the communicating and planning when I began my application back in September.
Thank you
YAY QUEENNNNN! Make sure to join the discord!
Tyyyyyyy! Yeah definitely lol. Have you heard back from CBYX yet about if you got upgraded?
Can anyone who was accepted share program dates for summer Korea program? My son is an alternate so not likely to go, but trying to make other plans.
Nope, actually us alts for CIEE CBYX got a email last night saying that theyāve pretty much bumped how many they will bump. We can get bumped until June 1st, but that likely hood is so so low. Iām just going to apply for NSLI Russian summer and go to Europe after I turn 18!
Ahh okay. Well good luck with NSLI-Y next year then! Iām rooting for you so hard!!!
