Here’s a great link to advocate for the funding for state department exchange programs!
It’s always important to let your congressmen know what issues are important to you!!

Done! Thank you for sharing! I’ve meant to reach out to my representatives regarding this issue and this link made it a lot easier.
super helpful!! tysm i feel like these programs are a part of what makes America an amazing country to live in, so I want to do all I can to encourage my representatives to advocate for them!
if anyone wants to know, ive looked at all these threads and the latest anything has come out, not including rejections (which can come weeks later) is April 3/4. Korean summer is usually the last to come out around March 28-April 2. Rejection letters (yikes) will come out after all the acceptances, but people who are on the waitlist/alternates will be notified along with finalists. rejections usually come out by April, but the website says it could be until April 18th until you hear back. There’s a good chance that if you don’t hear back by 03/30 you’ve been rejected all this to say that we have less than a month max until finalist emails! turkish summer came out today in 2023, so if you’ve applied then get ready
this is all for summer tho! AY programs take a couple more weeks to come out, and the same goes for Korean being the last one out, usually by April 14th. rejections come out after all the acceptances as well.
any updates on FLEX/YES decisions?
No, but they are probably coming out next week at some point!
For all FLEX/YES/CBYX semifinalists: acceptances will most likely come out THIS week!! Good luck!
Hi! Is anyone sure when Russian Summer comes out or has previously come out? I’m at a disadvantage for acceptance but I’m so so excited to see the results.
Hello! Unsure of when they came out in 2024, but Russian Summer acceptances came out March 24th in 2023. Good luck!
Anybody heard anything from any of the programs yet??? I’m starting to fear they’re not gonna send out anything this week (for FLEX/YES, anyway)
I have not… I came on here to ask about that actually. I’m surprised we haven’t heard anything. Hopefully this afternoon or tomorrow they will let us know.
I noticed that this years applications were due about a week later than last years, and that the semifinalist notifications also came out later. so guess most of the results this year will probably come out a couple days to maybe a week later than previous years.
Does anybody know if there’s any chance that programs like NSLI-Y might be defunded/cancelled (hopefully not this year) due to cuts in funding with the new administration? I’ve heard there’s enormous cuts to the bureau of cultural affairs that facilitates all of this
Ahhhh that makes sense. I thought they were waiting to see what happened with the US budget, but actually your explanation makes sense too.
Honestly I don’t think anyone knows for sure. There’s a lot of speculation, some people saying expect the worst, others saying the programs should be fine, so in all honesty I’m not sure anyone knows for sure. I considered emailing the implementing organization(s) of FLEX/YES/NSLI-Y to ask if they had any idea if/how the budget cuts would affect them but tbh I don’t think they know much more than we do, and even if they do, I didn’t want to bother them since I’ve emailed them about other stuff (ie country fair webinars) in the past and I don’t want to be the annoying buggy kid who emails them about every last thing So yeahhhh idk.
In the meantime, we can all call/email our representatives to ask them to support these programs! Someone posted a link to do so back a ways in this thread (link to the post to make it easier on y’all: NSLI-Y (National Security Language Initiative for Youth) 2025-2026 - #161 by ponchossweater)
Ditto with what @agirlwithdreams said, but there have also been some mixed signals from the programs. According to current participants, V-NSILY was suspended but has just restarted. Also, cultural excursions for FLEX (and maybe YES) have been cancelled.
i actually asked about this in my nsliy interview in january, when the interviewer asked if i had any questions. they didn’t seem to have much information, just that they were hoping for the best and were doing all they could to make sure that these programs would happen. they told me that the program really has no idea and that the organizers are kinda in the dark. i think it would be best to just wait it out (even though it’ll be hard) and not email them because they probably don’t have any more information as of now and we don’t want to bother them too much!
Those are some great points… my new theory is that we will hear about acceptances this upcoming week. Youth Ambassadors was released this past Monday and CLS released on either Thursday or Friday so I have hope that we will hear back this upcoming week!
Yeah I’m guessing tomorrow for FLEX/YES/maybe CBYX (or maybe I’m not guessing, just hoping…) In any case, at least some of us have to hear within the next two weeks before March ends.
