Nude Hosiery....finally making a comeback!

No judging eyemamom! Just “I” opinions.

Why did you stop wearing hose if they make you more comfortable and think they complete your outfit?

I stopped because I believed they had gone the way of the dinosaur. I pretty much stopped wearing dresses and skirts as well because I didn’t like not wearing them, but I knew they were out of date.

I never realized they were out of date but I stopped wearing dresses period for at least 10 years if I remember. I only interview wearing pant suits.

Dresses and skirts don’t go out of date. Particular styles of dresses and skirts might, but the entire category didn’t!

Don’t they mean pantyhose went out of date? They do seem to making a comeback in some circles, though. I haven’t worn them lately (that means years) but it could happen. I don’t hate them they way some posters do, at all.

Dresses and skirts went out of date? I think she meant hose! :)

I meant pantyhose were really out of date. My OM had to have an intervention with me…lol Now I’m bringing 'em back baby! And good thing because I just got a cute new wrap dress I want to wear next week.

I wish I had thought of spanx first. In the 90’s, I used to cutoff the feet of my nude pantyhose so I could have that tummy control under my slacks.
Now that I’m older, wearing pantyhose isn’t a fashion issue for me, its a comfort issue. Without it, my legs would feel like jelly after being on my feet while teaching.

I just clicked through the NYTimes slideshows of New York, Paris, London, and Milan fashion week street looks - a few hundred pics in total, mostly of fashionistas going to and from the shows. Not a single discernible pair of pantyhose anywhere.

I really don’t think it’s coming back anymore than the girdle is coming back…it’s just too uncomfortable, too delicate, and it doesn’t work with open toed shoes or sandals. It’s an unnecessary expense and fuss that most women are happy to be done with. But for the minority who like it, go ahead and wear it! I’m old enough to notice that nowadays pretty much anything is acceptable and there are no more strict rules for what’s in and what’s out.

But the girdle has come back, in a big way. Except that it’s called Spanx or “shape wear” or those compression shorts that teenage girls wear. We may not call them girdles anymore but that’s what they are.

I’ve read Jennifer Lawrence wear Spanx? What?

@NJSue‌ …perfectly said. I’m thrilled they are fashionable again…or at the very least I won’t feel old lady like. Speaking of that…there is this fun book I’ve gotten from the library a couple times…How Not To Look Old. Some terrific tips!

@gourtmetmom…we’re those summer pic you were looking at in the NY Times?

The pics were from September, and it was warm everywhere, but not summer and the fashions worn by the attendees were mostly transitional. After I posted, I did notice that Kris Jenner was wearing hose at one of the shows, and I did see the pic of Sarah Jessica Parker in flesh-toned hose with a black bra under a sheer white lace dress - it’s doubtful that anyone will want to recreate that look.

Spanx biggest sellers are the minimal cut light control smoothers - sales of full cut heavy compression garments became flat, so they introduced multiple lightweight, non binding smoothers. Most women don’t care if they are “a size smaller” (that used to be their tag line), they just want a clean line (no bulge or visible panty line) and they want comfort, above all.

I do understand the desire to avoid bulges and panty lines. My personal preference is to pick looser styles that allow that, even with my imperfect body.

It should also be noted (IMO) that hose alone are not what is going to determine whether you are dressed “old” or not. Or fashionable or not. If you are wearing a blazer and skirt from the 80’s, you’re probably going to look dated hose or not! So…classic CAN be good, fashionable CAN be good and hose CAN be good - but it’s the look - all together - that will set the tone for how you actually look!

If it’s good enough for the Duchess of Cambridge, it’s good enough for me. Although, unlike the Duchess, I’m not under the illusion that pantyhose replaces undies! ^#(^

Angelina Jolie was recently given the title of “Dame,” by the queen - she was very conservatively dressed, but not wearing pantyhose.

http://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20395222_20861009,00.html</a></p>

I’m sure she’s more comfortable, but honestly, I think that outfit would look a lot better with the stockings. ;)

Beautiful suit Angelina is wearing. She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in this picture.
