She did take Calculus to fulfill the requirement 1st semester. Only nursing program I recall requiring that. She had taken AP Stats in HS instead of Calc, and was able to get the credit for that, so even though she had not taken Calc she was able to have the Stats credit under her belt. She was able to get the AP English, & AP Psych too (and maybe another I don’t recall now) and then some additional dual credits that probably didn’t fulfill much required. We didn’t visit until early March last year - our last visit to any school. It really wasn’t on her radar seriously until then. If your daughter would like to tag along to a class with my daughter if your visit aligns, please let me know! I know she would be happy to help - show her a real dorm room, etc.
Does anyone have insight as to likely merit aid contributions from Pitt, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Temple? Student is OOS for all of these schools, and approx 3.8 GPA / 32 ACT. Most grateful for any observations!
I was accepted to Pitt and Rutgers. Expect nothing from Pitt. They are known for not giving out much merit based scholarships due to the fact that they are state related, meaning the government partially funds them. I didn’t get anything from Rutgers, but Pitt gave me 5k/yr.
Yeah, that lines up with my research. Darn. Tough to justify the extra $10k+ a year compared to other programs (Loyola Chicago, Purdue, Cincinnati, Marquette, etc.), but all things being equal my son would love to attend Pitt or Rutgers over those…
D got 10k merit for nursing at Pitt. applied in august, received in first batch of
Merit. High stats. Good luck!
Wow, congrats! We will wait for July ACT scores to come back, then apply ASAP thereafter.
Is Anyone share spec 2024 direct nursing admit in CA?
My daughter wants to go direct nursing in CA. she will be senior.
Anyone who can give me an advise pls leave so.
a quite bit of information about direct nursing in CA are found in the link above. direct nursing at UCLA and UCI are “extremely” challenging to get admitted.
Do I need to list all information on this thread?
I see it’s been 2 years, my daughter going through the process now with similar schools. What did yours pick? Looking for insight on Tennessee and a few others
Mine is in her second year at Tennessee. She loves it. It is challenging. We are seeing now that the advising isn’t always phenomenal but we know from an older child who went elsewhere that you have to be your own advocate and planner - this isn’t high school anymore. AP and dual credits put her as a sophomore to start, so this year she had preferential parking pass access and was able to add a psychology minor. Some benefits for sure. New nursing building will open this fall just in time for her clinicals to start. Happy to answer any questions- she was down to TCU, Bama and UTK in the end. Had 11 acceptances. Great merit aid made UTK equivalent to in-state tuition for us where we live.
@OceanAir - UMaine nursing is on our short list (along with some other NE flagships which we haven’t heard from yet). Is your daughter having a good experience with courses, school and clinicals? Any info would be helpful. My dms are open. Thanks!
I DM’d you.
Would you mind sharing your daughter’s experience at Simmons? Is she happy with the program and her college life?
Sorry for late replay.
As per her it is good college and she is getting part time jobs also in Boston.
