I will be coming on 18 July, with my sis and dad. I will attend the orientation on 19, and will check into my room in PGPR on 23. The other days I will be touring S’pore with family, setting up bank account, getting SIM card for mobile phone, etc.

Have u guys decided about bank and mobile phone related stuff?

While my first choice was halls, i think life style in PGPR will be interesting because of the cluster. Plus the building is newer than halls, so more comfort, peace and hopefully fewer lizards, cockroaches, termites, etc. :P

@LordXXX: You don’t need to go for QET? I am exempted from QET too!

@Veraila: What will u do in S’pore after coming in early July? Will u go back home after the orientation?

@Lord XXX: I want to bring an electric keyboard…pretty small… I think it should fit but I don’t know about the rules…too much noise maybe?

@pragmatist12: I’ll be staying in singapore till uni starts…coz it’ll only be 2 weeks…wt bout u?
yea, PGPR is newer than the halls…quite a big area too!..and hopefully less bugs…lol
btw, did you apply for the language preparation course for the exchange programme?

@pragmatist12: Yeah, I think the rooms are better and bigger at PGP…and its pretty far away from the main campus so we can do all kinds of crazy ****
I’ll decide on banks accts, phones and other local stuff after I get there…when can we actually check-in to our rooms at PGP?

lol I think I’ll have to take the QET…I’m just skipping it…can do later…

@Veraila: Yeah, I think that’ll be okay…I certainly wont mind the noise
Maybe you should ask NUS about it…

Looks like we’re the only 3 going to NUS this time
lol

Hello guys! Just popping by since I’m a Singaporean and you all are talking about NUS
I’m the opposite - I rejected my NUS offer to go to Berkeley. So it’s the US for me come August (:

Feel free to ask me stuff about Singapore in general, it’ll be fun to answer your questions! I’ve also been to NUS a couple of times (and the other Singapore universities too) so I can help you a little with that, I guess.

Hi Eloriel:)
nice to meet u
congrats on your acceptance into Berkeley:)
yea, I do hv some questions…like the NUS campus…is it located in the city? Or does it take some time to reach it? I’ve only been to singapore twice…when I was little…all I can remember is visiting sentosa island and the bird park lol

Btw, has anyone done their medical examination? Or are you planning to do it after coming to singapore?

@Veraila: I did not apply for LPP because I do not intend to go to those countries for exchange…I will start staying in PGP from July 23…I already asked for a medical appointment at UHC for my medical test on July 19 afternoon…you must get it doen either in another country or in S’pore before the registration since it is needed for student pass.

@LordXXX: My understanding is that the earliest check-in dates are as follows:

For international students taking QET: July 12
For international students not taking QET: July 19

There are definitely more NUS students than us! Check out the new members on FB NUS Class of 2014.

BTW, I think we are now off topic for this thread since we are not discussing “NUS vs HKUST”…perhaps we should have further discussion on FaceBook NUS Class of 2014…I also got a feeling that if I continue to use CollegeConfidential I will call u “LordXXX” and “Veraila” instead of ur real names when I actually meet u. LOL…So, do lets discuss on FB ;)

LoL…yea…we’re way off topic and I’m so grown to our pseudo-names…it’s kinda funny…fb it is:)…

@veraila: the campus is actually located lightyears from the city. which is why people choose SMU over NUS sometimes, because NUS is pretty far away (not as bad as NTU though, most Singaporeans are clueless as to how to get there). From the city, it takes a 45 minute train ride (you have to switch trains, too) and a 30 minute bus ride (including waiting time) to get there, after which you have to switch to an internal shuttle bus to get to wherever you want to go within the campus (unless you’re in FASS or something, which is quite close to the public bus stop so you don’t really need to take the shuttle bus). There are quite a couple of routes from the MRT (train) station to the school, and which one you take depends on what school you’re going to. During the summer break the shuttle buses take ages to come (or are non-existent). D:

Which is why the halls are so sought after, hehe.

@eloriel: wow, that’s pretty faar…thx for the info…

@Veraila: I’ll be doing my medical examination here itself…we gotta fill only the 2 forms at the back of the freshmen guide, right?

@pragmatist12: Yeah, we should def go to FB…but I actually prefer msn to fb…so if you guys use msn I can add you :P

Btw, did you guys check if NUS has received the Form P we had to send some time ago? And did any of you get anything about the Student Pass??

@Eloriel: Hey, congrats on getting into Berkeley…I would have def gone to Berkeley, only if I had got it
Thanks for the info…but I’m sure NUS wont be that far away…Singapore’s not a huge place :P

@LordXXX: I already received my IPA Letter (Inprinciple Approval) from NUS Office of Admission. Using this I can enter S’pore and stay there till I complete the formalities for student pass on registration (july 23). Only then I can get Student pass. However, before registration I will need to pay S$60+S$30 online for Student pass and multiple entry visa. I don’t know what are the procedures for Sri Lankans.

I think NUS received our Form P because they sent notification to say that they are happy that we have chosen NUS.

@pragmatist12: I think for us we get the IPA at NUS itself…because we dont need visa to enter Singapore
But I guess I’ll have to pay the online fee…

lol I didnt get anything from NUS about being happy…when did you get that?

@LordXXX: I SL folks r lucky u don’t need visa to enter S’pore. My dad and sis r coming along with me to S’pore and apparently u can’t get a tourist visa without buying a plane ticket…how inconvenient.

NUS sent me an email confirmation of receiving my Form P and online acceptance of offer about June 4-8 if I rmb correctly. I think it had gone to my junk mail actually…but i have a habit of checking junk mail too…lol

@Lordxxx: I think you can use this web link to check if nus has received your form…

https://aces01.nus.edu.sg/stdFormsSubmitted/StdFormsManager?action=login&page=stdlogin

btw, hv u guys registered for the international student programmes thingy? there are loads of events…

‘’…The Chemical Engeering course offered by HKUST is only 3 years long and 120 credits which means I would have to work extra hard to pass with honours whereas the course(Environmental engineering) offered by NUS is four years long and 160 credits which means it would be easier for me to pass with honours…and having an honours degree is impoartant nowadays…‘’

What do you mean by this? How come it will harder to pass with honours when the course offered is 1 year shorter and have lesser credits?

Hello Guyz !! Congratulations for everyone’s success. I convey my felicitation to all of you.

I earnestly request you to help me. Your humble advice will be highly appreciated.

Would you please inform me that what could be the SAT 1 and SAT 2 score required in order to make my application competitive? I want to enroll myself at Electrical and Computer Engineering dept. I will try for the 2014 intake. Presently, I am preparing for SAT 1. I have 1.2 years in hand for SAT 1 and SAT 2.

Please accept my utmost gratitude in advance for your cordial help :)

Take Care !!!
