Which is better?

NUS hands down…( if u just look at sheer quality…the 6yr bond kills most of the fun though)

yes, NUS wud be better coz its like a 100 years old where IUB is fairly new(altho this cud be quite a generalization)…u dont need to sigh the bond if u dont want to…

NUS any day dude…IUB is good but still not that good to beat the NUS …

SM

yep…exactly, also i dunno wat it is like living in germany,sg is a nice place…it is maybe too organised etc but its quite cool

NUS !!!

If i had got into NUS I wud have gone there instead of IUB… but the social scene here is better …and the girls are better looking !

lol mjehan…good reason but im pretty sure that sg too is a very beautiful place if u get my drift… :)

Singapore Has The Toughest Laws And The Strictest Penalities For Breaking The Laws… It Has The Highest Execution Rate Per Capita… They Are Much More Rigid Than The Uptight Germans !

wasup, gotta agree with mjehan on this…

highest execution rate??? holy ****!

yeah… it is so true tat singapore has one of the strictest law in the world. no chewing gum, no littering… But it doesnt mean that in Singapore, people will get executed for no reason. You will only get punish if u dont abide the rules. Singapore is a very nice and clean, but then again, it is really too small. And it is nothing new that singapore education system goes “by the book” and there is quite an inflexibility there.

what happens if guys smooch or make out in public there? do u go behind bars like in Kuala Lampur?

haha… the answer is NO, ArjunArjun Shankar Prakash. Unlike KL, Singapore is a very secular country, so they will not punish people just because couples are making out in public or girls wearing bikinis. Singapore is very strict in terms of drugs, littering, crimes, racial discrimination, all these kinds of stuff… Actually, come to tink, other Asian countries do have the some similar policies, except that the punishment in sin is probably 10 times worse than other places.

I would say IUB. NUS perhaps got more name-recognition. But once you come down to NUS… I bet you will be cursing yourself for not choosing IUB… I believe an education should be holistic. And NUS definitely do not provide you with that.

Typical NUS education: MUG MUG MUG MUG MUG MUG MUG MUG MUG. And to make things worse, grading is based on a bell-curve, i.e. top 5% A+, the next 10% A and so on… So, it’s a really cut-throat environment. You want to get an A? Oh well… go sabotage your friend’s work. Or don’t share whatever you’ve learnt with your friends. Yeah, that’s NUS.

NUS is a depiction of the real world conditions…here at IUB there is no motivation at all… eastern Europeans get all the good jobs and places and have an edge since their educational system suits the pattern of the IUB course content.

well i guess thats one to IUB…i read in the other forum that one can change major’s easily…not the case at NUS.

If you’re in the school of sciences in IUB, you can change ur major very easily till like the beginning of second yr, and if ur in the school of humanities, you can chang whenever u want. For sciences, the only thing that stops you from changing after 1st yr is some labs that you might need as a prerequisite for 2nd yr courses that you didn’t take in the first yr bcoz u werent in that major. I don’t know about NUS so I can’t make a comparison between IUB and NUS but IUB is also good. And btw, its not like u lack motivation to study at IUB, I think u are in fact more motivated bcoz there is competition but its not cut-throat type!

but NUS has a huge world standing, its degree is really respected and revered…in that sense IUB isnt close…

i really don’t think NUS has a huge world standing… or respected and revered for that matter. Okay, in the region maybe… but in the world, i think not.

Or maybe I am trying to convince myself that I am not doing something stupid when I’m trying so desperately to get out of Singapore when I actually got into my own national university, that is so ‘revered’, with a mere click of a few buttons (NUS application for locals is that easy yes… they have all your data and results and everything)

And my resolve is faltering a little… day by day…

Sorry for this unconstructive post, doesn’t seem very relevant to the topic. But IUB and Germany sounds way cooler than NUS and Singapore for sure.

The German who come to IUB are not the actual Germans who live in Germany… so don’t make up any judgements abt the Germans just by meeting the Neo-English speaking Anglo-Germans here.
