NY Times gift link: You Texted? I Hadn’t Noticed

Interesting! I use Do Not Disturb on my Pixel when I take a nap and I confess that I occasionally forget to turn it off after I wake up. Now I have to figure out if I can use it just on certain individual numbers/email addresses. I am so old!

I have a set timer for DND because I don’t want to hear from anyone between the hours of 9 pm and 6:30 am. My family know to call twice as they are on the override list if there is an emergency. I make liberal use of the feature during the day as well ; )

What a great idea! I’ll have to figure out how to set that up (or ask my kids).

You can set some of your contacts to favorites and that I think overrides the DND.

I have my kids, my mom and my mil on the list.

I have DND from 8PM-8AM. Also, all sounds/notifications, except phone ring, are permanently off. My phone lives in the charger in the laundry room. I’ll respond to text or voice when I get around to it. You know, like the old days. :telephone_receiver:

Usually my phone is downstairs while I sleep upstairs. When I’m traveling, though, I use DND liberally while I’m sleeping. Especially when I’m visiting people on the West Coast – otherwise all my early morning emails from NYT, WaPo, etc., would ding at 3:00 AM. Luckily, even if you set DND on, any alarm you set stll rings.

I do that as well; I have a very small circle of close family and friend contacts marked as “favorites;” they can call or text during my programmed DND hours in case of emergency. With elderly parents and a special needs child, it was always a necessity. Now I’m trying to get used to said child texting or calling at later and later times just to talk as our relationship shifts to more “friendship” conversations. My heart still flips everytime I hear that ding :joy:

I have an iPhone and have it set to silent at all times except my husband and kids are on emergency bypass and will ring through. No one else rings through. If I’m holding my phone I will see if a text comes through or next time I pick it up I’ll see a notification but only my family makes the phone make noise. I think my kids just have it all set to silent since they def don’t answer me right away.

I love love love the feature where only contacts will ring through on calls and everybody else goes to voicemail. Saves me getting so many spam calls.

I don’t usually set up Do Not Disturb because I don’t get that many texts but I don’t want to hear them unless they are from family.
