But we need a round table. A rectangle means we only talk to the people sitting near us.
I just want a lunch. I don’t want to visit an attraction.

Me too! The table can be arranged in a large square also. Some of the great places don’t have round tables.
If you do another one in the summer I can join you.
Keep me posted, I would like to join if I can. I agree, lunch – and a round table – sounds fantastic. If there are enough of us we could do 2 round tables and move seats halfway through so we get to talk to others, if we want.
I’m in for lunch. Will be away mid to late March but otherwise a train ride away!
Hope you all are enjoying the holidays!
Also, IIRC, a good chunk of us last time came through Grand Central, plus there is the shuttle from GC to Times Square which can get folks just about anywhere.
So…I would prefer something closer to Grand Central than Rockefeller Center.
@oldfort might have some good suggestions. I thought the place we went to last time was great…and I would go back. But something new, and nearby wouldn’t be bad either.
Will be following and will try to join!
Agreed but the long table was a big problem for me.
Two tables put together as a square would work also. I think we need to see what’s available. Also, let’s put you more towards the middle this time instead of on the end.
Thanks! Lol i will try to arrive earlier. And I am getting new hearing aids from Costco tomorrow, having lost the old ones several years ago.
I like the place we went to last time. It’s hard to get round tables at midtown restaurants. I think lower east side or Chinatown would be hard for people to get to. I am back in the office more now, so my time may not be as flexible.
But with advance notice I will be able to manage.
I strongly prefer to meet in midtown.
Let me see what I can find in midtown. In Grand Central, there’s a huge food court downstairs with very flexible seating. The next time I am in the vicinity I will check the Oyster Bar where I’ve never eaten but maybe they have flexible seating. Probably quieter than the food court area.
I do not want to travel to NYC to eat in the food court at Grand Central Station…not when there are so many wonderful restaurants within walking distance.
If the majority of those attending wish to do so, just send me the date and I’ll decide whether to come…or not.
I would prefer a restaurant.
I’m searching for restaurants near grand central that can accomodate larger groups, will report back in a couple of days.
Oyster Bar? Certainly a restaurant!
I know it’s a restaurant. If that is the group choice, please let us know.
I would suggest checking the menu prices.
One of the first NYC meet ups was at the restaurant that used to be on the mezzanine level of GCS. It sounded like it was a lot of fun. But I don’t think there is a restaurant there anymore, is there? And it was very convenient and easy for folks.
Yes, I know, super expensive, but I’d go for it. Excellent seafood! Last time I was in Grand Central, there were lots of different restaurants on different levels.
So here’s a first question: budget?? What is a price range people are willing to consider? Many places will be $50/person for lunch.
I am also investigating places that might have small private rooms.
Sorry to be a Negative Nellie – I don’t eat seafood at all. I just found the Oyster Bar’s menu online to see if they offer non-seafood items, and there is a very small list (four items, one of them Kidz Chicken Tenders).
It is also hideously expensive.
So I’m a hard No on the Oyster Bar.
