It is an upscale fun Asian restaurant. They would have round tables. It’s $29.95.
Won’t be able to attend, but on occasions where we are meeting up in a large group, there are several dim sum places around Midtown with large round tables. Huge variety of smaller bites if you want to taste different things.
That looks great but a subway or bus ride from railroad stations, 42 E58 St.
Bryant Park Grill tends to be a solid spot for larger groups and is a short few blocks to grand central. You can sometimes request which of the two dinning rooms based on preference and group size. May be on the pricey side however. Just a thought.
What other food preferences or allergies are there? I have to eat gluten free, so would want a place with more than two or three options for me; I am wary of places with everyone sharing dishes and where the staff may not be knowledgeable about what is gf, and how serious it can be.
No one has said anything about price. We need to know, so we know whether, say, the Bryant Park Grill is an option or is a complete non starter. Would people feel more comfortable PMing me?
For me, price is less of an issue, as this is a special outing for me so I’m ok paying $50 certainly, and even $100, but I recognize not everyone else wants to do that.
Just heard we may be able to get a room in a private club. Will share details once I learn more.
I would walk from Grand Central. Not that big a deal, especially if you exit GCT from the north.
Sounds perfect to me!
I won’t spend $100 on lunch. Sorry…just won’t do it.
But the cost won’t keep me away if the menu is a good one.
No worries – my plan is to research and then provide a list of suggestions that meet our parameters, so it would be great if people would chime in with budget that would be helpful. I definitely do not want to pick the venue, but I am happy to research.
Following…
Shall we say max $50 before tax and tip? Or is that too much?
I’m interested if I’m in NYC. Price is OK.
I think that is going to be low…I’d say $75 before tax and tip, and that’s only for those who aren’t having a glass of wine, or dessert and coffee with their meals.
It cost $50 for lunch here in CT…at many, if not most places. I would guess it’s going to be more in NYC.
I think this will all be easy to figure out if the menus from a few choices are shared.
I am definitely interested. I could go higher on price but respect that people have limits. Pretty open about food–just need something not too carby and not red meat, which shouldn’t limit any place. Hoping I will be able to make it. Would be coming into Penn Station but can negotiate subways pretty well.
I’m flexible on the price as well as the location…but prefer midtown. Not picky about the food type, but because of a seafood allergy to one kind of seafood, I would prefer not a seafood place.
@cinnamon1212 i googled fixed price lunches and got a good long list. I don’t know anything about them, however.
The option of fixed price or not might work…if there is a nice quiet place that has this.
Ok, we could go to the Harvard Club; I am still getting details, but here’s what I know:
- it’s convenient to Grand Central
- it has a buffet of all sorts of food, so seafood and gluten can be avoided
- it’s in a quieter room than a busy restaurant
- it’s prix fixe at approximately $50/person (nailing down exactly how much is one of the details I’m working on)
The drawback is that they don’t take reservations for that room. I emailed asking if they would, if it’s a group of 10+, or, alternatively, if I arrive a few minutes before that room opens for lunch, would it be likely we would be accommodated.
All that said, we absolutely do not have to go there!! But wanted to offer it, if people are interested.
I’m allergic to shellfish but can eat fish and bivalves. I’m flexible on price. I’m not yet positive on my nyc dates but suspect they’ll be 3/6-3/10 or so.
Harvard Club sounds fine with me.
Me too.
