NYU Abu Dhabi

Wow, I have been lurking on this thread for quite a while and I’m so happy to say that I’m going to be a part of this amazing opportunity. I applied RD to NYU, “checked the box” for AD, and got my invitation to the second February CW this afternoon! I was stressing out a little after I’d heard a few of you had gotten your invitations in the past few days. This all seems surreal to me!

A little about me:

Female from the Northeast U.S.A., public school
4.28 GPA UW (my school uses 4.3 scale)
SATs 800CW 660M 780W

I’ve applied to all of my other schools intending to major in international relations/affairs, but because NYUAD doesn’t offer this I’m actually kind of undecided. Maybe social research and public policy? Despite the modest range of majors offered there are quite a few that appeal to me.

@Kiwikid and bmraotwtn
Thank you for your answers! Kiwikid I would have to agree. I don’t see why they would accept around 60 kids from ED-I if they didn’t have space for an equal number for ED-II or RD. It seems like they would be shorting themselves of the sort of talent that might also be considering other elite schools. Of course, figures as high as 200 should also take note of the limited space (I assume, I could certainly be wrong) at the current campus. I did remember reading, however, that NYUAD’s student faculty ratio would be capped at 8:1, while it is currently around 3:1, so if they do have the room I’m sure they would grow accordingly.

@lc93430, Telperien
Congrats to both of you! And teleperien, your interests sound exactly like mine! I’d love to take international studies, but for the chance to study somewhere like Abu Dhabi, I’d definitely be willing to settle for something like political science or history. Hey, there’s always grad school though, especially when undergrad tuition is around 0. May I ask where else you’re applying?

@murtaza101
I wish you all the best! I’m sure it will all work out in the end.

Hi everyone! I’m super excited about NYUAD and I really hope that I am admitted! It would be such an amazing opportunity…I would be honored to be chosen. I have a question about EDII applicants and when they will receive notifications as to CW. I have seen that some people received notifications 4 weeks in advance while others received it 2 weeks in advance…does anyone know if this is based on location (international vs. american)? Have any EDII applicants from the US been accepted yet and for which CW?

*Fingers (un)crossed for Feb. 24 CW!

The research project is aimed as an indicator of your critical analysis skills, i.e. they want you to be capable of conducting your own research without just resorting to, say, Wikipedia. So you do pose a question (which does not have to be related to your major) - and you don’t answer it as such but you explain HOW you would answer it, e.g. where you would go, what you would do, etc.

Haha Wesley, we do seem to have a lot in common! I didn’t apply to schools quite as prestigious as yours, though. I went for matches mostly because you’re right, grad school will be important in an international relations career and I wanted to apply undergrad where I was likely to get a good amount of merit aid. My only real reach besides NYUAD is Johns Hopkins, which I love, but I doubt they’ll give me enough money to attend if I’m accepted. Otherwise I applied to NYU, George Washington, American, and Eckerd College in FL (kind of random but I’ve heard good things! And I’ve been accepted)

KiwiKid, but how could I know now where I would go, for example? I didnt know that this could be soooo confusing.

Research the area! I don’t mean go as in “which public library in Abu Dhabi would I visit?” i mean it as “I would visit the national maritime musem to research the evolution of the shape of the dhow” (if your topic was like that) or like “I would note the changing cultural importance of coffee as a drink of the Arab people by finding its references in news/literature of each decade”.

oh. now i got it
thanks! i hope i’ll finish it til tomorrow dedline :)

Hey there! So I was wondering are you an ED or an RD applicant? Also, do you mind sharing with us what the itinerary looks like?

hey i’, still wondering. is NYU Abu Dhabi in NYC?
because when i look at the address, it’s just the office address … and i’m so confused about the school. It’s a part of NYU?
I’m sorry about my question :frowning: But hope u guys an answer for me. thank u so much!!!

@Jennguyen93 – Hello there, and about your question, oh definitely no! NYU Abu Dhabi is in well Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (check my location for an indication :stuck_out_tongue: ) and its just that the address given on the website is for submitting NYUAD’s materials, since applications are all processed and evaluated back in New York, even for NYUAD.
