Oh god I am the only EDIer rushing last minute?! I am finished with the Common App, I just have to make final touches to my essays. I’ll send it on the 30th.

I have a question, I am an international applicant and already have my scores of my secondary school leaving examinations. I am taking my SATs next week. Even though NYUAD does not require the SAT for internationals, will it help if I send my score (assuming I get a 2100 or plus)? They make their candidate’s weekend decisions from the 15th to the 20th of november right? My score will be sent around the 20th if I choose the “rush report”. Will it be too late to submit it? Will they receive it in time?

I just want to maximise my chances. Thanks for replying.

And good luck to you all! Hope we can make it!

@Daveyyy Your counselor needs to submit a School Report, a Mid-Year report, an International Report and an ED Agreement-Counselor Component. But stay calm! If your counselor is having some difficulty figuring out the process, your best bet will be to contact your Outreach Officer as soon as possible. You’re from Australia, if I remember correctly? I’m not completely certain but I believe you are covered by Mr. Steven Houghton and Mr. Khanh Le. I have dealt with Mr. Houghton because I’m applying from Malaysia, and I assure you, he’s very helpful. His email is nyuad@bkk.iie.org. Outreach Officers are experienced in dealing with counselors so I wouldn’t worry too much. I think they understand that the US application system is unfamiliar to most people. Good luck and keep us updated!

@hunbun77 You’re not last minute at all! I’ve heard people trying to submit applications on 11:59PM, November 1st, haha. Hmmm, you’ll get your SAT I results on the 20th? I think that might be a bit too late. Reading the posts from last year (yes, that’s what I do in my free time because I have no life, haha), @StefanZweig received his invitation on the 19th of November. His was the last invitation I read about for an ED1 applicant. Although we may think that is too late, I could be horribly wrong! I think you should contact nyuad.admissions@nyu.edu and double check with them just to be safe. Good luck and keep us updated on whatever happens!

Guys, lets try to keep this thread as active as possible! I know we’re all stressing out heavily, but lets at least share in it with one another! :)

Do you think NYU admissions would let my counsellor know if she was missing anything after the deadline?
I’ve submitted my common app and I’m hoping that they’ll let me know if she’s left something out, rather than rejecting my application completely. Do you think they’ll let the counsellor submit the forms after the deadline/ tell her that she’s forgot the forms?

I’m freaking out!
I’ve put so much work into this applicatino and I hope it just doesn’t get thrown out! :(

@daveyyy sorry i misunderstood you btw good luck to you i hope you get accepted. I am too worried about my application. I really need to get accepted. @hunbun77 i am submitting my application on 31st. I hope many people have to give their application final touch so i am not too worried. Well good luck to you.

@Daveyyy Yes, I believe they will tell your counselor if she’s missing anything. But you have to realize that for ED1, they’re dealing with hundreds of applications in a very short time frame. It can be frustrating for an admissions officer if something has been left out and they have to send a followup email (they’re human too!). But if you really want to play your cards and leave a few things out, I’m guessing they will send your counselor an email and ask for the additional documents. You can certainly try this, but if it were me in the situation, I would contact my Outreach Officer and try to work with them on figuring everything out. Best of luck!

Hi everyone!
Working on the final touches on the Common App for ED1. I have a question though, and it will be highly appreciated if you help me with this one.
In the “FUTURE PLANS” section of Common App there is a question that asks: Do you intend to apply for need-based financial aid?
Now, I am going to apply for financial aid. But the NYUAD fin. support is need-blind. And you also need to fill out the CSS/FINANCIAL AID PROFILE to be considered. Soo, do I choose YES, because I do intend to apply for financial aid, or NO, because it isn’t need based, but need-blind.
What did you guys choose?
And I wish you all luck with your applications people of the world :)

@ahtesham Me too! Grew up in the US, now living in Malaysia. My family’s from Karachi. How about you?

@AsemZh Need-blind means that the University will be making admissions decisions without taking a look at your finances. They do not care if your parents are making $500,000 or $40,000; the University’s decision will be the same in both cases. There are two types of financial aids: need-based and merit-based. Need-based financial aid refers to financial aid which is calculated according to your parent’s income. Merit-based financial aid is calculated according to your academic performance. For NYU Abu Dhabi, there is no merit-based financial aid, similar to that of Harvard’s policy, only need-based financial aid. So if you intend on applying for NYU Abu Dhabi’s need-blind, need-based financial aid, then choose ‘Yes’. Hope that answers your question. Good luck! :)

@FrancaiseLove Thank you, it definitely did help!

So how is everyone feeling about their application so far? Is anyone here applying with the IB predicted grades? Oh, and also I have noticed that this thread is mostly about the stats. What about some of the extracurricular activities and community and service?

@AsemZh No problem. I’m applying with my Advanced Subsidiary results (AAA)! I’m predicted top grades for my final A-Level examinations as well. What are your IB predicted scores? And the reason you won’t see too many people listing ECs is because the lists are usually too long, haha. Bleh, here it goes: I was the Head of Sponsorship for a charity Jog-A-Thon (raised $50,000 in products and services for the event), President of the Debate Club, volunteered in a sustainable development charity and a religious foundation. Since I have a nine month gap between finishing my A-Levels and enrolling in college, I’ll be doing the following: working on my first novel about a Pakistani girl forced into prostitution (have a few meetings scheduled with publishers!), joining four writing competitions, volunteering with The Edhi Foundation. Oh, and self-teaching two more Advanced Subsidiary subjects! I’m so excited about my gap time. I really, really can’t wait to start working on my novel. I’ve already completed chapter outlines; just need to begin writing. How about you?

@francaiselove OMG!!! Your ECs and Academic just made me realize I don’t have a chance! I’m only applying with top results in 2 Advanced Subsidiary and 2 predicted top results in my Advanced Levels. My ECs are only: Communications Head in Youth Development Program, Internationally recognized scout, Founding Member of School Magazine Publication, Best Delegate in Junior Cairo International Model of Arab League, Charity Committee head in Community club, Founder of Scouts club in school and 3rd Level Swimmer. Do I have a chance?

@Daveyyy Hey, have you submitted your application yet?

@osamasayegh I think you have a good chance with your ECs. But why do you only have two A-Levels? Isn’t it traditionally three to five? I chose three but I’m taking up two AS examinations once I’m done with my time in school. Good luck. :)

@francaiselove and osamaseyegh Ah! Thank god i have fellows with A levels. Btw you have awesome AS level grades. I had completed my A levels though with 6 subjects (2A*,3As and 1B). I hope you get awesome grades for your A2. For which major you are applying?
