NYU Class of 2019 Discussions ED1

@jazzcatastrophe‌ are the rooms in UHall bigger than the rooms in 3N?

I didn’t know you could choose which residence hall you wanted to live in! This is super cool. :-)

@stephtbrooks You don’t really get to choose which res hall you live in. You put down your rankings, but assignments are random and based on a variety of factors.

Ugh… I’m really lost now. I don’t know where I want to live anymore! This is like such a big decision… that I don’t even have to make right now. Haha
@jazzcatastrophe, what if I value location and community? Also, if I somewhat value food…

@‌lisaelba UHall and 3N are about equal in size

@xim0204 The farthest freshman dorms are Uhall, 3N, and Founders, followed by Brittany and Rubin, then Weinstein, and then Goddard and Hayden. I do think it’s kind of nice to be a a little farther away from Washington Square, because you actually have to go places and explore a bit. However, you lose the convenience of rolling out of bed 5 minutes before class

Community will be where you make it. I think some of the dorms with smaller rooms have more community just because people are hanging out in the hallway because of how small the rooms are. I also think explorations floors can be good if you want community. I lived on one my freshman year and I’m still friends with people that lived on my floor

Weinstein has tiny rooms also though. However, it has the perks of three dining halls (one all you can eat, one market-style, and one kosher). Rubin has a dining hall that IMO sucks. Hayden’s dining hall is okay, but they have totally awesome chocolate chip cookies. 3Ns food was okay the last time I had it, but it’s been a while. Palladium (next door to UHall) has both the gym and a decent marketplace style dining hall, and Kimmel (the student center on Washington Square closest to Goddard and Hayden) has the best food, but long lines during peak hours.

I’m thinking 3rd North because I figure it’ll be best to meet the most amount of people since around 12 people are sharing the whole loft…so it’s like 11 roommates! And plus, I heard the partying isn’t as frequent there…Im not a big partier lolol

@businessguy12‌ most of the apartments are NOT the giant lofts… they’re generally two rooms with two people in each

@jazzcatastrophe How are the conditions of the 3N and UHall dorms? I’ve heard parts of 3N have been recently renovated and UHall is relatively new.

Would you recommend getting a 30 day unlimited metrocard? I realize NYU has free transportation around the WSP area. Is it worth it to have an unlimited card?

UHall is newer than 3N, not sure about any 3N renovations. They’re both pretty basic, average size rooms at both, same furniture, etc. 3N (like all the older dorms) isn’t the cleanest, but it’s functional. I do think the kitchens are often smaller than at UHall though.

Unless you are commuting every day, it is much cheaper to put money on a metrocard and pay per ride (2.25 each?). 30 day unlimited is only worthwhile if you are taking the subway at least twice a day, every day

@jazzcatastrophe Thx!

hi guys? have you attended the interview on Skype? How it all goes? How is your feeling? :)

@NYUFan101‌ Was reading this earlier: <a href=“Reddit - Dive into anything”>http://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/2fjqtt/how_memorizing_1905_can_help_you_outsmart_the_mta/

@carlogabrl i have my interview tomorrow…have you had yours yet? Im so nervous!

@collegehelp08‌ @carlogabrl‌ mine is on saturday! Sooo scared the connection will go or something:o do you guys know if we need webcam or is it just like a phone call but on skype?

@popsoda i had the same worries with the internet connection being extremely bad so i emailed the interviewer and let them know about the possibility of poor internet connection and doing an interview over a phone call if that is the case. They replied to me saying that they are always aware of the possibility of the internet not working and if that is the case then they interview you over the phone…so don’t worry :slight_smile: you’ll be fine…good luck! not sure if you need a webcam though…you probably do i think…but its okay if you don’t have one
