I got my 2016 FA change a week ago. I want the 2015 FA now though :frowning:
**** applying to Stern, expecting to get rejected. Accpetance rate for Stern is only 15%

@jarjarbinks23 I’ll gladly give you my 2015 FA for your 2016 FA!

@NYUFan101‌ I don’t think you’re going to get a change because you said you didn’t applying for aid, so I think that 2015 must be merit. It would make sense that those who did not apply for financial aid didn’t get a need based designation because there was never any entry to be made for them, but they could possibly get merit. It also further explains why not everyone gets the 2015 change.

@jarjarbinks23 yeah i think that the 2016 is what you want to have! things are looking up for you

ugh I don’t have the FA change either I have “Award Access not available” with no year at all

Recs- probs v good

Intended Major: Journalism

now im so nervous ugh I’m a mess december 12 th needs to come NOW

@xdxdaustin I don’t think my stats qualify me for merit, especially for stern, it’s possible though.

3.88 UW (school doesn’t weight. Well regarded private school - I believe 3 students went to NYU from my school last year)
34 ACT, 12 writing
APUSH (5), AP Euro (5)
This year I am taking: Chinese V (AP level), Advanced History Research (harder than AP), Ethics, AP Calc AB, Econ I and II, 20th century American social history, AP Literature.

EC’s:
-Captain of Mock Trial (rigorous program; google “Breck School Mock Trial”)
-Grew, propagated, and sold (nationally) live coral
-Worked in an aquarium store (2 years)
-Cooking (Sushi and Ceviche, not mac 'n cheese lol)
-Video game design and development
-Classic car restoration
-Volunteered at work-skills training non-profit over the summer
-Weight Training
-Senior guide (I help freshman adjust to high school)
-Teaching myself Italian

Essays:
-Very good (so i’m told, i’m always doubtful about my own work. Reviewed by several people countless times)
Common app: answered question #4, threw a curveball. Said wherever I am pushed outside of my comfort zone is where i’m content
Supp: emphasized the importance of learning outside of the classroom. Demonstrated a deep familiarity with NY and NYU (included some stuff you can’t learn from the websites, you just gotta know NYU). Talked about being global and wanting to study abroad.

Recs: great, i’m assuming
-english teacher (great relationship)
-chinese teacher (had her for three years)

Hooks (potentially):
-My dad went to NYU for grad school, and my brother is graduating from NYU this year
-NYU summer camp, got an “A” for the week

Applied to CAS as Econ. Major (b/c I don’t know what I want to do, but I know econ will help me regardless)

Three rows:
2016 - no self service (got it about a week ago I think)
2015 - award access not available (got it shortly after submitting my app)
2014 - award access not available (for the summer camp)

@NYUFan101‌ I think your internship plus the multiple businesses you started might help

@smnparish I can’t remember, which school are you applying to?

@NYUFan101 just updated the post, applying to CAS

@xdxdaustin‌ I highly doubt there’s a specific correlation between them. It’s pretty forward to assume it’s merit and the other is need based. Last year people got rejected with a change so I think it’s safe to say nothing’s guaranteed. It’s probably a good thing…but it’s not a straightforward correlation like we’re making it out to be

@510shopgirl i’d say you’ve got a good shot, you’re EC’s are awesome!

@businessguy12‌ I mean when you look at the wording of the description of each year (2016 says “aid year” while 2015 says “award”, which clearly sound like two distinct things) and the supporting evidence, I would say its a logical hypothesis, but of course this is all being said with the understanding that we could all be easily proven wrong in a few days and is based on speculation.

So far, all of the stats I’ve seen on this thread are amazing. You all have a great shot.

@xdxdaustin also, looking at past years, it seems the “no self-service” message is only linked to ED1, so i’m not so sure if it has something to do with what kind of aid we get. Though it would otherwise make sense.

Also, has anyone who got a 2016 FA change gotten “no award access available” as the corresponding message?

@Smnparish‌ any word on what the other message is?

No change. But didnt apply for both need based and merit scholarship (international student).

Sat: 2120 (1510 CR+M)

@DavidTaleb‌ Your ECs are awesome
