NYU Class of 2019 Discussions ED1

Here’s the 2018 ED 1 (not 2) thread if you want to waste some more time stressing :)) . Gotta stop googling these threads

@xdxdaustin you either get “award access not available” or “no self service access for this aid year.” I think ED1 applicants can get either, what matters is the year 2016

@Smnparish‌ hmmm thats interesting. It might also be worth noting that my cousin who applied ED1 and currently attends and got merit just told me that she believes she may of had two years in her chart (like if we had 2015 and 2016) (however she isn’t positive)

@xdxdaustin Two years?

@NYUFan101‌ oops my bad  I meant both years like having 2015 and 2016. She got merit and need

@xdxdaustin yeah, i’m pretty convinced of the theory at this point. I don’t think it can be 100% proven, but it definitely seems to mean something good

@Smnparish‌ yeah agreed. I went snooping through NYUs website’s code for clues, but alas, nothing seems left expect to bite our nails and wait out the next week and a half (or so)

@xdxdaustin so 2015 Award access not available might just mean merit since I never applied for need? On my Holds page, it shows that the system recognizes I never applied for FA.

I have not gotten any update for FA. I still have Award access not available with no year next to it. My stats are incredibly low compared to you guys. I mean, in Miami, no one starts there own business at the age of 17. None of us have the money for it lol I am Latin, have a 1700 on my SAT, 3.52 unweighted GPA, 4.84 weighted, great EC’s for someone in my area (internships with Romney campaign, and a 2 year internship at the South Florida Educational Credit Union. President of multiple clubs and have worked) I have won a ton of awards (both for my school and competition. Currently hold national titles for FBLA in Public Speaking and Parliamentary Procedures) and other things such as Community service (I partnered my school with the Ronald McDonald House of Charity and worked with Orphans) and I am top 5% in my school and gay. My essay was great and writing supplement was perfect. Rec’s came from my business teacher, science teacher who is the sponsor of Math Honor Society and my teacher for 3 years, and my Principal. I believed I had a had a chance seeing as how I am Latino and stuff but I now see I am definitely not getting in which is ok because I believe I will end up where I am meant to be.

@xdxdaustin I don’t know what i’m gonna do a week from now…I might get sick from being so stressed haha

@xdxdaustin‌ I think it’d be worth noting as well that there are people last year with near perfect SATS and ACTs and extraordinary GPAs and ECs that only got one change. They most likely got merit and I think the NYU adcomm have been doing this long enough to let such an indicator freely float in the portal. I’m sure they’re not that silky or else everyone would know their acceptance or rejection.

Guys… Let’s not get ahead of ourselves… We already know that people with the change got rejected, so this could mean absolutly nothing. @xdxdaustin‌ I wouldn’t get too excited. You might have your expectations set too high and then end up not getting anything or very little.

Yeah I wouldn’t count on the messages indicating anything about the aid itself. @NYUFan101 I think if you didn’t apply for financial aid, you wouldn’t get merit-based aid unless it is the presidential scholars award. If that is the case, I think they determine who gets that award at the end of the year, as they need to determine which students of those admitted belong to the top 5% of the incoming class. I really wouldn’t worry, your stats are great and you have to remember that most people got their changes hours before acceptance.

My dad just read an article about college admissions. It said that although places like stern may report a 15% chance of getting in, when you discount all of the students who are way under-qualified, it’s more like 80%. That was actually for Ivy’s, Stern is probably even higher

@NYUFan101‌ I mean it would make sense because the 2016 seems to be described as need based (as it calls itself aid), so if you didn’t apply for need based aid, then an entry would never be made for you because you never had a file revised by the FA office. This would also explain why those who apply but get no need based aid still get an entry online or are rejected. And, again, 2015 is described as an “award” and has nothing to do with your FA application and therefore would go in as a separate entry online, which would explain the various discrepancies.

@Smnparish‌ I know how you feel. I couldn’t sleep last night because all I could do was think about what all these little bits could mean, and today I had to go to the nurse because I almost passed out from a random blood sugar crash (and I’ve never had that happen to me before)

Then I’m still curious as to what 2015 means. LOL I don’t think we can really analyze, but I guess it keeps some of us sane during these next few days.

But alas! I agree with @xim0204‌

Yeah @nyufan101 I spent a long deal of time on the phone with nyu financial aid in early November and they said you cannot get merit aid unless u submit a css

Whoops ^^ i typed that as you posted

@newyorkeratheart‌ @NYUFan101‌ alright well there goes most of that theory lol. But hey, speculation passes time lol

@xdxdaustin i’ve developed a dependency on melatonin because of NYU haha. Definitely do what it takes to keep yourself healthy. Even if you hear good news on the 12th, you’ll want your health so you can celebrate lol
