NYU Class of 2019 Discussions ED1

@FredDobbs I don’t mind sharing. I deferred enrollment to take a gap year in Paris, France through a program called CIEE. My native language is Spanish, my second and almost also native language is English, and I’ve always loved French so I decided I wanted to learn it. So, I’m currently in Paris learning French.
You’re right, deferring enrollment is very easy. Give it some thought!

@juanis1001 Thanks for sharing, Learning languages has always been a big goal of mine. I’m native a English speaker and proficient in Spanish. I really want to add to that list so any of my gap year plans would definitely include something abroad and probably some adventure travel.

@collegehelp08‌ I applied there as my primary choice! but i heard the acceptance rate it really really low like 2-5% so i am so worried now!! and thank you!! i wish the best of luck to you too! :)

@juanis1001‌ , so if I applied to NYU ED I, CAS. and get into LSP, I can accept the admission, pay the deposit. I do not have to withdraw other RDs? If I decide to attend other school, at most I lose is the deposit?

@kungFuGuy here’s what my admission letter says:

“Though you applied for Early Decision admission, we will not bind you to your offer of admission because we have admitted you to an alternate program of interest at NYU. We must, however, receive your decision to either accept or decline your offer of admission by January 7; at that point your offer of admission would, in fact, be binding, should you choose to accept and confirm your enrollment. After you confirm your enrollment, it will be your ethical obligation to withdraw any applications you may have previously submitted and to not file any additional college or university applications. You can have no other applications active after you confirm your enrollment on January 7. If finances ultimately prevent you from confirming your enrollment, please understand that we will relinquish your space in our freshman class on January 8.”

Hope that answers the question.

@juanis1001‌ Thanks for the info!

@FredDobbs‌
That is what I plan to do unless I get into LSP and I get to spend my freshman year abroad.

Did anyone see that message on the NYU Home page saying “Due to required system maintenance, Albert will be unavailable for 15 minutes on Friday, December 12th from 9:30pm until 9:45pm ET. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”? Could that have something to do with decisions coming out tomorrow?

@123jove‌ I saw that earlier too but it looks like its gone now.

@ rfree18 You’re right. Wonder what that was about. :-/

@123jove I saw that as well, I’m really hoping it means something…I’d be more inclined to believe so if it said that it would be down around 5:00 PM

@ rfree18 You’re right. Wonder what that was about. :-/

So what is the disadvantage to being accepted into GLSP, when you applied for CAS? Will I be set back in my semesters or about of classes I have to take? I don’t really understand what the Core program means, if I am basically just pursuing my intended major anyway.

It’s the 16th for me because of timezones… I have two final exams on that day though, so I probably won’t check it till after my final exam ends.

Well, at least that’s some closure on the issue.

@Stephtbrooks‌
From what I understand, ppl r put into GLSP with the same major for two years then are automatically transferred to CAS after those two years.
Again, this is what I heard. Don’t know how true it is. But then again it does explain why many ppl had changed from CAS to LSP without changing majors. So, it might be good to look into it

Darn… “slight increase in Early Decision applications.” :x

2 of my classmates just got into brown and they only had a 3.7 - 3.8 UW GPA… god damn that gives me hope
