******NYU Class of 2020 RD Discussion******

I did Columbia (deferred ED) @thetsaria and would choose it over NYU in a heartbeat

I got that NYU email and almost had a heart attack. Dangit.

@graceann Wait, so is Columbia the clear winner here? I know it’s an Ivy, but NYU is right downtown which is a lot ore appealing to some people, plus it has better programs in certain areas like journalism, I think.

@thetesaria Well I think it’s all really objective, but for me personally, yes Columbia is the clear winner. I visited both but liked the feel of Columbia so much better like I liked how the campus was an actual campus where for NYU it all seemed so disjointed. Also for programs, I want to do engineering/business, and I feel that being at Columbia would give me more opportunities to pursue both. But don’t get me wrong - NYU is great and I’d be honored to be accepted!

@seeniebeenie did the financial aid come with your acceptance letter? or did you have to wait until Albert is updated

I have NYU, Tufts, Columbia, Yale, Brown, and Penn all coming out on Thursday cries

I toured both Columbia and NYU. Columbia was my first college tour ever so of course I loved it but then I toured NYU right after and I literally forgot about Columbia. Everything about NYU – the location, the urban campus, the structure of education, the opportunities – is what I look for in a school. I really hope I get in. (plus I have no chance of getting into Columbia, and NYU is a possibility)

Hey, guys! I’ve been stalking this thread for awhile, but have yet to interact! I’ve applied to Tisch (Film and Television). I’m panicking about being admitted, but is anyone else freaking out about the cost of NYU (Tisch)? LIKE HOW AM I GONNA AFFORD 79,000 A YEAR?! I know there’s FA, but I heard NYU gives crappy aid. My Tisch people feeling me?

Will NYU offer any merit scholarship?

@Wscott23 No, FA is only available through Albert but if I remember correctly, it’s updated very soon after you receive your acceptance.

Are Stern applicants often offered admission to a second choice like CAS or LSP if they get rejected by Stern?

If you list it, yes.

I’m a stern applicant, I listed my alternate major as LSP. However, if you don’t list it, they wont consider you for it. @knicksjets

@Garyguy909 that’s not true. I know a few people who did not list LSP as one of their choices and were considered for it. @knicksjets so yeah, it’s a possibility.

Yes, I know what you mean. But they wont consider you for LSP if you apply to stern as your first choice and don’t list LSP as your second choice, as one can’t transfer to stern after they complete LSP because Stern is one of the few schools that don’t accept transfers after LSP. It may have been people who applied to CAS or something else. @pizzaandpeonies

I applied directly to LSP with Stern as my second choice… I hope I get in because I find LSP to be a very underrated program!

what a strategy hahah. @aznboi4981

Guys, since we are receiving decisions via email does this mean we wouldn’t know our financial aid award until April 4th? :frowning:

@Garyguy909 You can transfer into Stern after completing LS Core, it’s just a different process than the one advertised.

I called up NYU and they said stern wont accept LSP transfers?
