********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

how many admissions counselors review our applications?

The last wave of FA change (possible shielded - per @NTXDad) should be happening this week. Good luck everyone
Waiting is killing…

Guys… Less than 193 hours…

The wait is so hard ahhh

I read that after we are notified on Albert, the following Monday the 21st we will get an email and/or letter in the mail as well

FYI guys a lot of people from RD class of 2019 got the change and got rejected/waitlisted. So it doesn’t necessarily mean acceptance anymore

@collegeJerome I’m pretty sure your application gets looked at by one admissions officer that is assigned to the county of your state (if you’re domestic) or your country (you can find out who is assigned to your area by googling nyu admissions officers). I believe the admissions officer makes the decision on whether or not your application should be brought to be reviewed by the entire committee for consideration. Since this is early decision, I believe there will be a higher volume of (if not all) applicants reviewed by the entire committee which is maybe around 20-30 people???

How many people are brought before the entire committee? Half?

I have a theory about the order of decisions coming out:
So now that there are no longer emails being sent to notify us about our acceptance/rejections, we have to check on Albert. Shawn abbot said BEGINNING at 5pm. And I don’t think it’s coming in waves because of the fact that their not sending emails. Just like with SAT u can check at 5 am and it’ll be there for most people and 8 am latest. So I don’t think the rejections are coming in from 230 am to 12 pm, or acceptances from 3 to 5 pm. I think 5 it’ll all go up- without crashing (just like on collegeboard).
Just a theory lol

If the FA change didn’t mean anything then I doubt NYU would have made the effort to hide it behind the default page, no?
Similarly, NYU felt the need to fix/hide the display of the school name change with an applicant’s acceptance to his/her 2nd choice school.

Granted that we aren’t able to obsess over Albert anymore, I’m obsessing over my app. Can someone PLEASE chance me to settle my anxiety?

Recs: 1 from a famous artist/professor at NYU Tisch(he showed me the rec and he said that I am a perfect fit for nyu and he thinks I’m one of the best students he has ever worked with).

I’m literally shaking; I’m so nervous. Chance please?

@epgggg: Good luck to you. I think that you have a fair chance. Low GPA (and SAT) with a very strong EC.

To my fellow applicants, I still think that FA change is an indication for acceptance (domestic only, need-blind). NYU will not do any additional work (include FA change) for you if you have no chance.

Yeah I also believe that every decisions will be released at exactly 5pm. Just like the FA Change occured at exactly the same time for everyone in the 2nd wave.

But I’d still check my Albert the whole day lol. I don’t think I can sit still until 5pm and do nothing.

@epgggg I’m sure you’ll get in. I don’t think your GPA and ACT are low by any means. Your ECs are absolutely FANTASTIC. Part of me wonders why you aren’t applying to Stern, but that’s irrelevant. I’m confident you will get in! My GPA is “low” as well, my ECs are a little all over the place, the only thing going for me is my 2400 SAT and somehow that makes everyone think that I can get into Stern no questions asked. Goes to show how absolutely arbitrary this “chance” thing is on CC.

Choose to be confident! All the best ~

Thank you! That’s so reassuring. I was going to apply to Stern, but art is just so important to me (i was also offered recruitment into Tisch this summer, but my parents wouldnt let me accept it). Gallatin is like that middle ground that lets me take advantage of tisch and Stern, you know?

I was so confident in my app up until that whole FA change thing. My school is a top ranked private school. So, I wasnt too worried about my gpa, but I thought a 30 was in their range. Idk, maybe it is on the low end! We shall see. I’ve just been so high strung about this! Good luck to all of us

@NTXDad are we completely discounting the FA change theory now?

@epggg One thing I like about NYU is that they review applications on a holistic basis, so students with subpar stats and stellar ECs still stand a good chance. Plus your grades and test scores aren’t that bad. With that said, I personally think that having a strong letter of rec actually makes up a lot for your grades/test scores, especially from a famous Tisch professor. So don’t worry too much about it! Best of luck!

Can somebody chance me plz? I apply for CAS for business.
I have a cumulative GPA of 91
SAT 2040 CR 590 Math 760 Writing 690

@epgggg

Hi!! I also applied to Gallatin because of similar reasons. We actually have a lot in common! I own my own non-profit business. Its a clothing line and all the proceeds go to charity. I actually wanna go Fashion and Business.
We have the same ACT score too lol.

ACT Composite - 30
GPA 3.34 out of 4.0
I know my GPA is low
Extracurriculars:

  1. Student Council - all 4 years
  2. FBLA- 3 years and went to states and nationals last year.
    Won 3rd place in states
  3. Internship -
Interned at a Startup company in nyc this past summer
Sales Campaign Manager and Social Media Manager
  4. Clothing Line CEO- I have my own non-profit clothing line that I started where all my money goes to charity
    5 )girls scout- 10 years
  5. dancer- 10 years
  6. Golf- 4 year varsity (captain senior year)
  7. VP of communications for a non-profit association
  8. National Honor Society
  9. French Honor Society

I did a summer course and Columbia University last summer and a NYU Course this year.

For my Common App Essay I wrote about my two cultures and how they have affected my creative side, fashion, and my academic side, business.
For the supplement, I wrote about my own business, the internship I did in nyc this summer and what I intend on doing at NYU like classes, clubs, and etc.

I would tell you what your chances of getting in are but we are like the same in different ways and I have no idea what my own chances are! What do you think?

@catherine0611 this makes no sense, because you can’t apply to CAS for business. Unless you applied to Stern.
