********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

Everyone who wasn’t able to see their SAP thing, login into Albert and then go to this link (after logging in)
https://sis.nyu.edu/psc/csprod/EMPLOYEE/CSSS/c/SA_LEARNER_SERVICES.SS_FA_AWARDS.GBL?Page=NYU_FS_SAP_SELECT

@SternHopeful11 could you please at least explain exactly what this link is? We really should not be messing around with Albert.

The link brings us to the same place

This stuff is funny as hell, but no it is not there on mine. I was literally like “it doesn’t mean anything, so I’m not gonna check,” but I gave in lol. 5-6 more days is nothing, but the investigating is entertaining so please keep it up

Oh hey, the link worked, although all I can see is the SAP page, no NYU banner, links, etc. It says “Meeting SAP” for both 2016 and 2017. As a side note, I didn’t have the FA change, or didn’t catch it during the short time before it disappeared.

Edit: @Collegegal06 might have a point… it might be best not to click on random links for Albert, especially if we can’t find it ourselves.

It’s just a link to get to the SAP page if you don’t have the option on your Albert. You don’t have to use it if you don’t feel comfortable with it. Please don’t use it unless you feel totally comfortable with it. (but the only way for it to work is to login before you do use it (if you decide to do so.) @Collegegal06

Yes but just my advice to other users, I wouldn’t be clicking on a link we have barely any info on how it was obtained or works, while logged into our Albert accounts. It’s not the worth the risk of possibly breaching Albert security or upsetting NYU. And with someone’s account logged in, they take full responsibility for possibly doing so.

but yeah, the link is streamlined, cuz I didn’t want it to have a bunch of numbers and stuff, making ppl scared. That’s the reason for it not having the nyu banner and other extras. @Merppity

Why didn’t mine work? I did get the FA Change…

Who knows? This could mean anything, or nothing at all. I applied for NYU Precollege though, so that might have had an impact.
@SternHopeful11 That makes more sense than what I thought was a corrupted web page or something (lol, I’m no tech expert)

I did click the link and it showed nothing but a streamlined version of my Financial Aid page (no NYU banner or anything) No SAP or anything though. Does anybody see what I’m seeing?

I did have the FA Change, I hope this isn’t a bad sign.

@Merppity If you put that you were applying for financial aid, they will be providing their offer to you as well when you receive your acceptance. This is why those who apply for aid have the option to reject the acceptance. They give you 25 days to determine if you can afford to attend based on the financial package they offered.

This page has the info…
https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/apply/freshmen-applicants.html

It says “It’s important to keep in mind that early decision offers are binding with the exception of cases where your estimated financial need package won’t allow you to attend.”
“Please keep in mind that you won’t be able to compare financial aid packages from other schools if you apply early decision. Do not feel pressure to apply early decision if finances are a concern.”

Searching the HELP section, I found this: (I don’t know if it clears anything up as far as FA Change) but I’m too sleepy to decipher it

Understanding Viewing Self-Service Inquiry Pages by Aid Year
In the financial aid self-service inquiry pages, students can view their financial aid data by aid year or award period. If your institution enters Aid Year in the View Data By field on the Inquiry Options page, the system displays data based on the aid year.

The system displays all aid years for which the student has been aid-year activated on the Financial Aid - Select Aid Year to View page. If the estimated financial aid budget, expected family contribution, and total aid amounts for an aid year are all zero, the link for that year is disabled, and the system displays No financial aid data available instead of the aid year description. If the self service options for an aid year have not been set up, the link for that year is disabled, and the system displays Aid Year not set up for self service.

If the Allow Access check box is clear on the Self Service Options page, the system displays No self service access for this aid year. If the Inquiry Access check box is clear on the Packaging Status Summary page for this student, the system displays Inquiry access denied.

Students select the aid year to view. If a student has aid for more than one career in the aid year or award period, this link accesses the Financial Aid - Select Career to View page. If not, it accesses the Financial Aid - Award Summary page.

Note. If a student does not have awards or if the Award Detail check box on the Self Service Options page is clear, the system displays the Financial Aid - Self Service Links page.

Alright guys, sorry about the additional stress I created, but here is a summary of the research I did based on the 2019 ed 1 thread. Take it for what it’s worth (maybe nothing lol).

(I think you guys are right) The SAP change only relates to ppl who have applied for or went to NYU precollege.
However, 6 out of 6 ppl who reported having the sap “change” ended up being accepted into nyu (note: they all noticed the sap change after the fa change) I think it’s something that nyu didn’t bother covering up this year.
By “change” for us, I mean having the 2017 year in your chart for sap.

@Merppity I feel as tho you probably had the fa change, but just missed it! (which is possibly good)

All in all, 6 ppl isn’t a large sample size by any means, but I guess you can feel a little bit more comfortable if you can see your sap thing changed.

Edit: 5 out of 6; the other 1 person did not report anything at the end (but I am assuming he got in because he did not get rejected before 12:30 pm, when his last post was, in hopes that he would be accepted soon)

Were there any that went to pre-college who didn’t see the SAP change, and didn’t get in?

Ah, yeah. Also, another concern of mine is that every year (FA info, SAP page, etc.) all say 2015 and 2016. I know the 2015 is from Pr college, but why do I not have 2017 as well? Any ideas?

@Merppity Ohhh, I thought you said you got 2017 in the sap thing. Then you might have to wait a bit longer. (again don’t take my word for it)

@NTXDad I didn’t notice any reports of not having the sap change w/ pre-college, but I’ll check again.

I copy and pasted from Albert’s People soft.

It says-

“The system displays all aid years for which the student has been aid-year activated on the Financial Aid - Select Aid Year to View page.” -
which can be taken to mean: if you see the year 2017 in the FA change, NYU has set you up in their system for the year 2017. Which I would take to mean - acceptance.

It goes on to talk about what “No self service access for this aid year” could mean also.

@NTXDad Nope, I didn’t find any posts about ppl in the pre-college not getting the change. I still think it’s a way for precollege ppl to see if they had the fa change or not. Again, sorry about all the worries guys.

@NTXDad haha, my apologies, Oracle is indeed a company, wasn’t paying attention when I wrote that. And you are definitely right, you know a lot more about computer security / computer-science than I do. My understanding of this entire “hacking” thing is that you only change the html/css code on your client side. Someone referred to editing the html code to “show” your decision. My understanding is if you’re editing the code that you’ve already downloaded (on your own computer), then it is not “hacking”. It’s kind of like what ad-block does, where it censors out certain content (except in this scenario, we’re doing the opposite by modifying the html/css to show us something that was censored out). However, if someone “tricked” the sever into giving them private information (data exfiltration or something) then that would be considered hacking. In this scenario, we’re only modifying code that is on our hard-drive and doing nothing else with it. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks.
