@josiejiang I honestly don’t think there will be any change under application status until 5pm on the 15th. I am positive. I dont think anyone has a change under application status right now…
@nyuu20 Finally found another Steinhardt applicant!!! most of the people here are Stern, CAS and Tisch applicants. I think you have a good chance for Steinhardt with your stats as a domestic student. Steinhardt is not awfully hard to get in compared to Stern, Tisch and even CAS. I am applying to Steinhardt too with a 2060 SAT and 720 in SAT 2 Japanese since im applying to foreign language education major at Steinhardt. Finger crossed for both of us !!!
For ED1 domestic applicants the FA change has been shown in past years to have a very very very close correlation to acceptance - people who got the change were accepted. People who didn’t have the change were rejected. To say that it doesn’t mean anything would go against statistical analysis of previous years. In all honesty, I doubt it’s random and I wouldn’t quite call it crazy. Relatively speaking, it makes sense to associate it with acceptance, but with only four days until admissions decisions, I really don’t think it’s worth stressing out about.
It really sucks as I missed all the previous FA change waves since there has been issues with my Albert account. I didn’t log into my Albert account for a single time until this Monday when the FA summary page has already gone back to default for everyone. I don’t even know if I got the FA change… Such a struggle as everyone is saying that FA change means a high chance of accept… Do you guys think there will be another wave of FA change before the 15th???
Someone said last year they got the change like the day before admission decision I believe. So technically you could have a change then (if there’s still one more wave before the 15th), but if you already had the change and didn’t know, it’s not going to show on the 14th. @ayli9784
@kkatie2020 Yes each school has very different admission criteria. Stern and Tisch are always considered the most demanding schools within NYU. CAS is also a popular one. I am applying to Steinhardt as well. I didn’t find a lot of stats about Steinhardt on CC. But according to what I heard, Steinhardt is not awfully hard to get in compared to Stern, Tisch and CAS!!! I feel like Steinhardt looks at applicant in a more holistic way considering your intended major since majors at Steinhardt are very profession-oriented.
@ayli9784 ahh yes! fingers crossed for the both of us!! thanks for your feedback, i can be a lil less stressed now lol
@16eforeman okay got it !!! Thank you for your information. It’s really helpful. I will keep an eye on my FA summary page on the 14th. But do you think it would apply to international student who is not applying to any sort of financial aids? Thanks again
For whatever reason, after all the digging some of us have done, the FA change isn’t as strongly correlated to acceptance for international applicants. At lot of us are only sure of the domestic FA change, so I don’t want to give you any false information. As far as I know it’s up in the air regarding international applicants. Hopefully everything will turn out alright and in a couple days we can all celebrate together
@ayli9784
Domestic applications are need blind, while international applicants are need aware.
So, the theory goes that once the admissions office gives the green light to a student, based on the holistic qualifications, their FA status changes (although now you can’t see it). If it’s a domestic student, they’re pretty much in. If it’s an international student they will look at the financials, and potentially reject the student if they say they need x dollars for school, and they can’t match that amount with the merit based awards. So this is the case where they get the FA change, but still get rejected (in theory).
I don’t think a week has ever felt longer in my life- almost there! this time in four days we will know! @-)
@josiejiang you must not have read this thread before you posted. There has been nothing about application status changes showing prior to announcement. There are several posts, questions about posts, reposts, more of the same questions, and so on about the indicators for acceptance, as well as posts about the recent changes to hide these indicators.
Also there have been posts, a blog article on the admissions page, as well as an email sent out from the admissions office stating that emails are not going to be sent out initially this year. They are going to make the admissions decisions available to everyone via Albert at 5pm EST on 15Dec. Then they will send out emails a few days later. So there won’t be waves of rejection emails going out then emails showing acceptance like in years past.
Everyone will be attacking Albert at 5pm EST, and probably a little before to get their status.
@NTXDad Thank you for your information!!! Can you please explain how they judge an international applicant based on merit awards if the student is not applying to any sort of financial aid? Since I’m not applying to any kind of financial aid and will be full-pay for my tuition. Thanks !!!
@ayli9784 I’m pretty sure the acceptance rate is about the same across all the schools. I know some schools have more applicants than others, but from what I have been told, almost every school accepts about a third of the applicants.
They still consider merit awards for students even if they aren’t applying for financial aid.
If a student says they need x dollars to attend, and NYU can’t met that need with merit awards, then they will get rejected. The issue is one component of the financial aid is federal money via grants and loans. International students aren’t eligible for these funds. If a student says they don’t need financial assistance, and they meet the holistic criteria, then they are pretty much in. They will still consider merit awards for international students. Of course if you don’t want these awards, fine by me, it just means more money available for my kid.
@nfporter Sorry, no. NYU as a WHOLE UNIT accepts around 33% of applicants. Some schools such as Silver pull the high end, schools such as Tisch, CAS, Stern, bring it right back down. If you told me that 33% of Stern applicants got in, you would have to be joking. That would be a dream.
@iywang Is there somewhere to see the historical stats from the different schools?
Stern 15%
less than 100 hours yall.
@NTXDad I believe not. Takes quite a bit of digging, I’m afraid. As I am applying to Stern and Steinhardt, I know that Stern releases their class demographic and stats each year but Steinhardt does not. You can peruse CC for general estimates for Steinhardt, but no official numbers. Individual schools are not required to report these statistics.
