********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

@natiann123 wow!!! it feels as if we applied only two months ago, when in actuality it was far longer than that. Craaay

I just want to know if they will be updating Albert in waves or all at once. The wait is killing me…

Not meaning to stress anyone out and I know that the decision day is tomorrow but just curious; did anyone get the FA change in the last 3-4 days??

@natiann123 When filling out the FAFSA your other parent’s income will have to be included as well. Your chances of getting federal aid in the form of grants are probably pretty good. Then there’s work study, and federal loan programs.
Add on the merit money they offer you and that’s pretty much how you’ll get through it. The loans are the part that will likely make up the difference from the grants and scholarships.
I suggest you research scholarships. Don’t limit yourself to national big dollar awards. Go for the smaller ones as well. They may each only be $500, but if you get a bunch of those, they really add up. The smaller local awards are also a good option because there’s less competition for them.

@natiann123 You should ask your guidance counselor about scholarships… I asked mine and she gave me a list of scholarships that I can apply for

@natiann123 Yeah, besides scholarships though, you should try working during the summers between school years. Paid internships, higher paying menial jobs (bartending pays quite well apparently), etc. And save up your money. Working too much during the school year probably isn’t the best idea though; it’ll only sabotage your studying if you go for too many hours.

@natiann123, good luck with you for everything. Do not worry too much for now. Everything will be fine.

@natiann123 Not to rain on the parade but if finances were big concern you probably shouldn’t have applied to NYU Early Decision. They state this on their website repeatedly. NYU is 1) one of the most expensive institutions in the nation and 2) historically terrible at any sort of aid. Go check Niche, go check the comments on their Facebook page - there’s always one kid or another wailing about not being able to pay and having to drop out and transfer elsewhere because of it. Definitely apply to tons of scholarships. As many as possible. Anything helps. If you sign that ED agreement and then say you can’t go bc of money it might give your school a bad reputation.

www. scholarships . com is where you’ll want to start.

Wishing you the absolute best!

Ahah the legacy- in the end of the day- they do take that into account

Yeah legacy is complete bs in my opinion but I have it for NYU so I hope that’ll push me over the edge if nothing else does @collegeJerome

@iywang Can you chance me for NYU Tandon seeing as you tend to give pretty good advice and pretty forward responses?

Hi friends! I’ve been scanning this forum for awhile but I put off getting an account until today since the nerves are pretty intense now! How is everyone holding up? Also, is anyone else having problems accessing the NYU Albert page? It’s always worked for me but now it seems to be down. I wonder if that’s a good sign (posting decisions early?)…

@sftos1 albert is working completely fine for me

same

@NyuEdPls I don’t know if this’ll be much help but your SAT scores are definitely REALLY good and I’m sure they’ll take that into account while looking at your GPA. They seem to be more impressed if you challenge yourself rather than get all A’s so the fact that you’re attending an elite high school is good. Just out of curiosity, which school did you apply to?
