NYU ED Class of 2023

Exactly, there is no college that will force you to attend it. Just think about how ridiculous it would be if you were forced to attend a particular school. They rely on your moral and ethical character to decide to attend or not, and if you don’t have any why would they want you to attend their institution? Yes there is a very small percentage that are accepted ED that do not attend (seems t be 1-2%).

@CU123 Thank you, I am considering switching to ED 2. NYU is my number 1 but I want to graduate debt free as possible so in that regard NYU doesn’t seem like a good option.

Will they “blacklist you” if you decide not I attend because of FA?

You basically submit an early decision appeal. According to the early decision binding contract, it states that the applicant can wait for their financial aid package for all the other schools applied. If there is a school that is significantly more affordable than your ED school, you are released form the ED binding. This is what I know about ED. I have applied ED to NYU~

Only like 13 more days! ??? we all got this! We all waited an entire month… I think we can wait 13 days hahaha. Here’s an interesting blog post by an admissions committee member~ it’s worth the read.

Quick question… do you guys think it’s possible for an applicant to get deferred from the ED1 round and possibly move their deferred application to the ED2?? ? curious on a potential situation like this…

No, that is not generally possible. I know of no college that would do that.

Guys is it too late to tell them i want to be considered for an alternate major (LSP)?

No go ahead and call/email them.

But aren’t decisions already made by now?

@YooImTim , if you look at last year’s thread, there were some people from ED1 deferred to ED2, and some (more) to RD, but total deferrals were a very small number, a few hundred I believe. NYU typically does not like deferring ED applicants so the overwhelming majority of ED applicants will get either an admit or a rejection.

@SJ2727 thanks for the clarification! I’m just like thinking every possibility I can get lol. Wish the best of luck to everyone!

Yup, if you are deferred to RD then an admit decision is no longer binding. I think it still is for ED2, but I guess you could clarify that in the rare instance it happens. It must surely be only the most borderline cases they defer to ED2. They do say they believe that they have a responsibility to ED applicants to let them know early too which is why they typically don’t defer.

@YooImTim someone last year actually posted the NYU announcement on ED. See http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1952422-for-those-of-you-who-were-deferred-from-nyu-ed1.html

It seems a deferral to ED2 is binding but if you don’t want to be bound by that you can ask to be deferred to RD instead. Larger than usual number of deferrals last year (400) because of the new SAT the prior year, so I’d assume that the deferrals would revert to a more usual, lower number this year.

Are there any current indicators on NYU decisions yet?? I’m getting sooo scareedddd

does anyone know how long it takes to receive your financial aid award after an early decision admittance? like if you were to be accepted on the 15th, when would you receive your financial aid award?

@hardfeelings they say you’re able to see it at the same time.

@hardfeelings @cmhvisuals
yes, that is correct. You will receive ur financial awards package with your decision email on albert. If your admitted, your will receive a financial awards package made by the Office of Financial Aid with the combination of scholarship grants, loans, and work study grants. In fact, I believe decisions are most likely made already since the finial aid office gets ~ a week to tailor an award package for each admitted applicant. Hope that helps!

Previous threads indicate that the FA office makes awards independently of decisions, at least at ED stage - so they end up compiling a lot that get tossed. They don’t suddenly do all of them in the space of a week … apparently

hey i’m new to the thread and applied ED I for CAS. i think they would keep the same procedure that they use for RA in processing financial aid awards. either way, those admitted will definitely be able to see them upon acceptance…
